Norwegian Epic: "Ships Within a Ship" (Part 3)

| Tuesday, 05 Mar. 2013

The new megaship from NCL pioneers several innovative cabin concepts.

Courtyard Villa Suites At the top of the "ship within a ship" menu on Norwegian Epic are the 60 Courtyard Villas, Penthouse Suites and Deluxe Owner's Suites, all situated on two private decks above the bridge. All suites are centered around a courtyard that contains a private pool, two whirlpools, a gym, sauna, sundeck, private indoor and outdoor dining and a concierge lounge -- all for exclusive use by villa and suite guests. One of the ship's nightclubs, the Uber Bar, is located within this courtyard, and access to it will be open to the public only on a limited basis.

The F3 "New Wave" Stateroom All cabins on Epic are designed around a new concept called "New Wave Staterooms," with a different look and feel from those on other cruise ships. They have domed ceilings, and the walls are curved instead of at modular right angles. Lighting is all recessed, in subdued LED blues and other soothing colors.

The bathrooms are all separated out into individual components, with the shower and toilet each in separate compartments, giving each guest more access to the facilities. The sink is in the stateroom itself. All outside cabins on Epic have a private balcony accessed by a full floor-to-ceiling glass door.

While all outside staterooms on Epic have a private balcony, the ship also has 560 (out of 2,100 total) inside staterooms. These inside cabins are spacious and have the same "New Wave" look and feel as the more expensive cabins.

Cruising Norwegian Epic Travel agents are already selling group space on Epic. Individual guests will be able to book Epic cruises next month (May 20, 2009). The ship's first transatlantic cruise after leaving the shipyard in late April 2010 will be sold to the general public. But right now the only cruises for sale are the regularly scheduled seven-day sailings from Miami, alternating between the East and West Caribbean.
