Princess: More Caribbean Less Europe

Princess to reduce European cruise ships by two, and add summer Caribbean cruises

Caribbean Princess still has Skywalker's nightclub

If you are looking for a trend in cruises, it appears the cruise lines have finally caught one to the fact that cruising in Europe has been something of a bust ever since 2008. Both Princess and Royal Caribbean cruise lines plan to reduce the number of ships they dedicate to cruising in Europe, more specifically the Mediterranean, by two ships in 2014.

Here at CruiseMates, we have been telling you for years that Europe is the place to get a great cruise value - because a region with too much cruise ship capacity will see cruise prices go down. 2013 will be the same, a relative bargain for European cruises, but it appears 2013 will be the last such year of bargains.

The same thing happened in Alaska up through 2008, until the cruise lines finally realized there were too many ships going to the 49th state every summer, so they finally reduced that number and have been doing better in Alaska ever since.

Princess Caribbean Cruise Choices

Just last week Princess put summer Caribbean cruises back on sale, for the first time in four years, with cruises from Fort Lauderdale aboard the Caribbean Princess starting in May, 2014. The cruise options include a total of 13 shorter three, four and five-day getaways as well as 12 full week eastern and western Caribbean itineraries, all of which can be combined for a 14-day "Caribbean Adventure" sailing.

All cruises sail roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale. Itineraries feature the ports of San Juan, St. Thomas, Costa Maya, Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman, plus most voyages visit the line's exclusive Bahaman paradise on Princess Cays.
