Dinner in the Millennium's alternate restaurant, the Olympic, is not a meal, it's an event. The ambiance of the restaurant begins with the original paneling from the White Star Line's Olympic, the sister ship to the Titanic, and is continued throughout by the addition of elegant, yet comfortable furnishings and finishing.

From the decor, through the table settings and cutlery, class is prominent. Combining this physical setting with superior and attentive staff, Celebrity has created not just a sure winner, but a real Olympic experience.

As we were seated at our table for six we were greeted by the Maitre D, who presented and explained the menu, and what we should expect for the duration of our evening. The menu in the Olympic is divided into 4 courses; the appetizer, the main course (entree), cheese selection, and dessert. While the choices in each category are extensive, one has only a single choice from each category. For many choices the preparation is a la minute -- cooked table side. Each item on the menu also has a recommended wine to accompany it, available by either the glass or bottle. Plus there is a vast selection of other wines available from the sommelier.

The setting is superb with the fine linens, silverware, crystal and china, but the real finishing touch to make this a special experience is the staff. I fully expected this to be a very formal evening, and was prepared to try and force myself to behave in a manner suiting the decor, but the staff seemed to know right off that our group also wanted to have some fun. Within minutes we were sharing laughter with our dining partners and the attendants

Yet, even with our tomfoolery the level of service was exemplary; never missing a beat. Rather than serve each person individually, each course was delivered by 3 staff members in unison, and also removed in unison. One of our tablemates, in the "Olympic spirit," dubbed this "Synchronized Dining," which had us all rolling with laughter. We all wanted to hold up signs offering scores of 10.

Within our group of 6 we sampled many different items in each category, and everyone was licking their plate after each course. It didn't see, to matter what anyone ordered, their food was wonderful.

When the cheese tray was presented we were asked individually to explain to the server what types of tastes we had in relation to cheese. He then suggested and prepared a variety of cheeses to match each individual choice. Even going so far as to suggest in what order we each should sample our selections.

The meal ended with a nice and delicious selection of desserts, coffees, teas and liqueurs.

We were all saddened when our three hour dining experience had ended. What an experience it was. One word describes the "Olympic Experience"... MAGNIFICENT!
