7-25-12 Holland America to Increase Alaska Presence 2013 or the 2013 Alaska cruise season, Holland America Line is increasing its presence in the region with more departures and more guests than in previous years. Early Advantage savings provide free upgrades and family cruise values for 2013.

Although the number of Holland America ships deployed in Alaska will remain at seven — the same as 2012 — ms Amsterdam will double its departures on new seven-day roundtrip sailings from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As a result, Alaska-season departures will increase 8.5 percent and guest capacity will increase 6 percent over 2012.

Plus, Early Advantage savings feature complimentary upgrades and free and reduced fares for third or fourth guests who share the same stateroom on select sailings. By planning ahead, a family of four can take advantage of fares on select departure dates starting at $699 per person for the first and second guest in a stateroom, and the third and fourth sailing free. Taxes are additional.

"Increasing our capacity in Alaska means that Holland America Line will offer nearly 1.6 million passenger days in the 2013 season," said Richard Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. "These itineraries have always been among our most popular, and Amsterdam's new seven day departures will allow us to bring more guests to Alaska and show off the natural beauty of this part of the world. We also encourage travelers to book early and enjoy greater benefits with Early Advantage savings."

When the 1,380-guest Amsterdam begins its Alaska season May 24, the ship will sail a series of 17 seven-day Inside Passage voyages. The Vancouver sailings feature port calls at Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan, Alaska, as well as scenic cruising throughout Glacier Bay National Park or Tracy Arm Fjord/Twin Sawyer glaciers.

For the 2013 Alaska cruise season, Holland America Line also will feature ms Zaandam and ms Statendam each sailing on 18 Gulf of Alaska departures from Vancouver. Statendam and Zaandam also will sail four total Inside Passage routes, along with Amsterdam (17), ms Volendam (21) and ms Zuiderdam (20). In addition, ms Oosterdam and ms Westerdam are slated to sail 21 and 20, respectively, seven-night voyages from Seattle, Wash.

Seven-day Alaskan Explorer Voyages Sail Roundtrip from Seattle

Starting May 5 and 11, respectively, the 1,916-guest Oosterdam (Sunday departures) and 1,916-guest Westerdam (Saturday departures) will sail 21 and 20 seven-day Alaskan Explorer voyages departing roundtrip from Seattle. The itinerary features port calls at Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan, Alaska; Victoria, British Columbia; and a scenic cruising experience at Tracy Arm Fjord/Twin Sawyer glaciers or Glacier Bay National Park.

Seven-day Inside Passage Voyages Sail Roundtrip from Vancouver

Five Holland America Line ships – Amsterdam, Statendam, Volendam, Zaandam and Zuiderdam – will sail roundtrip from Vancouver on a series of seven-day Inside Passage voyages. The 1,432-guest Volendam (Wednesday departures) and 1,916-guest Zuiderdam (Saturday departures) sail a total of 41 voyages from May 1 to September 21. During those voyages guests will visit Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Glacier Bay National Park and make a shore excursion call at Tracy Arm Fjord.

Four additional Inside Passage cruises sail aboard Statendam and Zaandam. Statendam departs Vancouver May 5 and 12, and September 22. Zaandam departs May 5.

During embarkation for the Seattle voyages, a ranger from the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park will be available to talk to guests about the Klondike parks and other national parks located throughout the Inside Passage. On all Glacier Bay sailings, a park ranger and native interpreters from the Huna people board the ships to explain the origins of their tribe and cultural traditions.

Seven-Day Glacier Discovery Voyages Sail from Vancouver to Seward (or reverse)

The 1,260-guest Statendam and 1,432-guest Zaandam once again will provide the only mid-sized cruise ship experience available in the Gulf of Alaska. Glacier Discovery cruises sail between Vancouver and Seward (Anchorage) with Sunday departures May 13 through September 16. The itinerary features port calls at Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, a day at sea in the Gulf of Alaska and scenic cruising through the Inside Passage. Each ship will sail 18 voyages and include a visit to Glacier Bay.

CruiseTours and Exclusive Shore Adventures Provide More Discovery of Alaska

Added capacity and departures also will send more guests on the line's CruiseTours, which combine a three-, four- or seven-day Inside Passage cruise with in-depth overland tours to the Yukon and Alaska's interior. Offering up to three days at Denali National Park for wildlife viewing and spectacular scenery, CruiseTours are designed to highlight the best of Alaska's wilderness, wildlife, native culture and history.

Holland America Line offers more than 250 optional shore excursions in conjunction with its Alaska cruises. While in port, guests can optimize their Alaskan experience with excursions that involve everything from adventure and wildlife watching to history, art and cuisine. Exclusive Cruise with Purpose shore excursions turn vacation time into an exciting give-and-take opportunity — combining traditional tour content with a chance to make a difference to society, the environment, animal welfare or economic growth.

Guests also can enjoy active excursions such as sea kayaking, fly or sport fishing, dog sledding and viewing eagles, sea otters and whales. Other exciting excursions feature such attractions as the White Pass Summit Scenic Railway from Skagway, Russian heritage in Sitka, a photography tour in Haines and a five-course tasting meal featuring Alaska seafood prepared by a local chef in Ketchikan.

Popular seven-day Alaska Inside Passage cruises from Seattle, Wash., or Vancouver, British Columbia, start at $699 for inside staterooms or $999 for verandahs, with free upgrades and free or reduced third/fourth fares on select departures available during Holland America Line's Early Advantage savings promotion.

7-23-12 Magic Castle Talent Comes to Crystal Ships

Ultra-luxe Crystal Cruises has pulled the ultimate rabbit out of a hat with a new, industry-first program entitled "Magic Castle at Sea." Thanks to an exclusive arrangement magically orchestrated by Master Magician Rich Bloch, magicians from Hollywood's renowned private magicians' club, the Magic Castle, will come aboard to entertain and mystify guests of all ages. Starting today aboard Crystal Symphony and on August 6's Crystal Serenity voyage, the incredibly intimate evening shows add yet another live entertainment option to 13 luxury European cruises this year, and every voyage in 2013. The new affiliation also offers complimentary classes for adults to develop their own magical acts, educational enrichment on subjects like Houdini, and children's shows on select summer and holiday sailings...plus access to the secret Castle itself when in Los Angeles.

"Considering club guests can only gain entrance if they're in LA and invited by a member, Crystal's Magic Castle at Sea provides rare access to a truly spellbinding entertainment experience," says Crystal's Vice President of Entertainment, Bret Bullock. "We're thrilled to offer our guests yet another unique choice in high-caliber vacation fun."

Like at the Magic Castle itself, on-board performances are "invitation-only," with advance, complimentary "invitations"/tickets available at the ships' libraries. Guests can choose from multiple, half-hour performances over the course of several nights. Come showtime, they enter a special entrance to find the ship's Pulse or Luxe lounge transformed into the mysterious spirit of the Victorian-era Castle, with flameless candles, lighting, music, murals, bookshelves and magic movies from the 1920's. With attendance limited to just 25, audience members are privy to an extremely up-close look at sleight-of-hand tricks, impossible feats, and bewitching hocus pocus.

After vacation's end, invitations can further be used for one-time access to the real Magic Castle in Hollywood. Show attendees must call the number on the back of their used ticket to reserve entry, then present the same ticket upon arrival at the Castle.

Crystal's European season includes Baltic and Northern European cruises until September and Mediterranean sailings until December. Book Now fares for 7- to 12-day Magic Castle at Sea voyages start at $3,065/person, double occupancy, with attractive air add-ons, plus savings for groups of six or more, combining cruises, and shorter, 5- to 8-day cruise itineraries.

Crystal's award-winning, luxurious offerings always include a diverse selection of thought-provoking, scholarly, and sophisticated enrichment activities that provide extensive on-board choices for cultured world travelers.

After 13 years of successful service with Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd., Daniel Hanrahan, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, announced today he will be leaving at the end of July to take an exciting new opportunity.

"While leaving Celebrity isn't easy for me, I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish the last seven years," said Hanrahan. "The delivery of Celebrity Solstice in 2008 changed what was a great brand into the finest premium cruise line in the industry. In four years, we took delivery of five new ships, 'Solsticized' the Millennium class, repositioned the brand around 'Modern Luxury', achieved record high guest ratings and won numerous awards as the best sales organization. Not to mention, we saw our profitability improve dramatically. To say I'm leaving Celebrity in good hands is an understatement. From our teams here in Miami and Wichita, to our crew members on Celebrity ships around the world, this is the finest group of professionals I have ever worked with. I know the Celebrity momentum will continue."

"Finally, I want to thank all the people of Celebrity for their support and help to me over the past years. I feel extremely fortunate to have had the wonderful opportunities our company provided. I'll always look back proudly on what we have accomplished and be thankful for all the wonderful people who have touched my life."

"Royal Caribbean has been very fortunate to have benefited from Dan's leadership and vision over the past 13 years," said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. "Dan has made countless contributions to the company, such as leading the creation of the award-winning 'Get Out There' campaign for Royal Caribbean International, to transforming the Celebrity brand with the stunning Solstice Class fleet. I wish him nothing but the best as he moves on to the next phase of what I'm certain will continue to be a very successful career."

"Fortunately, Dan is leaving a very strong organization, and we are lucky to have great bench strength to continue our vision. While I am sorry to see Dan leave our family, with the strong base of the Celebrity organization and the continued support of the travel agent community, I know Celebrity's future is in good hands," added Fain. 7-5-12 Norwegian Breakaway to feature "Rock of Ages" live Norwegian Cruise Line continued its legacy of innovating cruise ship entertainment as it announced that the five-time Tony Award nominated musical ROCK OF AGES will be featured on Norwegian Breakaway, along with two additional Broadway shows: the dance sensation BURN THE FLOOR and CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER JUNGLE FANTASY. The line also introduced all of the varied and exciting entertainment acts and venues that will debut on the ship, including the famed comedy troupe The Second City and Howl at the Moon at Headliners Comedy Club and New York's own Slam Allen in Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club.

"As a lifelong New Yorker, it's critically important to me that Norwegian Breakaway becomes New York's ship - the only way to cruise from New York when she arrives next May. Our goal is to bring elements of New York on board so that guests will feel a real connection to the ship as New York's true flagship," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line's chief executive officer. "With ROCK OF AGES performing in the Breakaway Theater, along with BURN THE FLOOR, CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER JUNGLE FANTASY in the Spiegel Tent, and all the other entertainment offerings, we are truly bringing Broadway to the high seas and delivering the high caliber entertainment that New Yorkers have come to expect."

ROCK OF AGES is one of the longest running shows in Broadway history and offers Broadway's best party. The New York Times has called the show, "Absurdly enjoyable! About as guilty as pleasures get!" The classic rock love story of the decade features such feel-good, sing-out-loud songs such as "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "I Wanna Know What Love Is," "Here I Go Again," "Don't Stop Believin," and more. The Broadway show is now also Hollywood's biggest party as the film of the musical by New Line Cinema was released on June 15, 2012.

In addition to being a bona fide Broadway hit musical, ROCK OF AGES was a runaway success in Toronto and Australia; has a production running in London's West End; and has several successful licensed productions in Asia.

ROCK OF AGES is lead produced on Broadway by Michael Cohl and Jonathan Linden of S2BN Entertainment and Matthew Weaver. Norwegian Breakaway will feature multiple, specially-designed entertainment venues throughout the ship so that guests can choose from a wide variety of entertainment each evening of their cruise with choices to appeal to a broad audience.

BURN THE FLOOR

Offering shows in both the 800-seat Breakaway Theater and more intimate performances in The Manhattan Room, dance sensation BURN THE FLOOR will dazzle guests with their re-invented ballroom dancing.

Beginning with, and maintaining all the wonderful traditions and the social history of the Ballroom dance art form, BURN THE FLOOR is a groundbreaking show, serving as a melting pot of styles, energy and excitement for today's generation of dancers. It is Ballroom "supercharged."

During the course of the show, the dancers perform all the Ballroom and Latin styles, including The Waltz, Cha Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Mambo, Tango, Swing, Jive, Lindy Hop, Viennese Waltz, and Paso Doble. The music is eclectic, from Swing and Waltz classics to J-Lo and Credence Clearwater. Two vocalists perform in many languages during the show, including English, Spanish and Portuguese.

The show premiered in London in 1999 and toured the US for the first time in 2000, including performances at Radio City Music Hall. After touring around the world, in a variety of countries, including Japan, Singapore and Australia, BURN THE FLOOR premiered on Broadway in 2009. Originally intended to be a limited run, the show opened to rave reviews in New York and extended its original run into January 2010, performing 193 shows. Already staged in more than 300 cities globally, BURN THE FLOOR is currently in the midst of its World Tour of the Broadway Production with dates in Holland, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan, and will return to the US later this year before joining Norwegian Breakaway in 2013.

CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER -- JUNGLE FANTASY IN THE SPIEGEL TENT

Following the huge success of the revolutionary CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER on Norwegian Epic, famed producer/director Neil Goldberg will present an adaptation of the Broadway show CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY featuring the best of both critically acclaimed productions. The new show will be entitled CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER - JUNGLE FANTASY and will perform in the ship's intimate Spiegel Tent.

Proclaimed "the grandest circus spectacle east of Vegas" by New York Magazine, CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY debuted at the Broadway Theatre in 2008 and is, to date, the first and only show of its kind to ever perform on Broadway. The show received an American Theatre Wing, Best Costume Design nomination and has played to over 3.5 million people in more than 200 cities throughout the United States, as well as thousands of U.S. military troops and their families throughout 10 countries.

CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER - JUNGLE FANTASY will feature an international cast of Cirque Dreamers performing amazing feats while bringing to life a soaring Ballet of Butterflies, Flipping Monkeys, Hopping Frogs, Spine-bending Lizards and Fanciful Birds in an exotic, awe-inspiring adventure.

FAT CATS JAZZ & BLUES CLUB FEATURING SLAM ALLEN

Following his extremely popular performance as the house band in the Jazz & Blues Club on Norwegian Epic, New York's own Slam Allen will take the stage in Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club on Norwegian Breakaway. Fat Cats will feature nightly live blues and jazz performances by Allen and other world-class talent. The urban setting creates a hipster vibe complete with full bar and comfortable leather sofas and chairs. Fat Cats will also feature outdoor seating on The Waterfront, a Norwegian Breakaway exclusive, where guests can enjoy a drink and the live music while feeling the warm ocean breeze.

For more than 20 years, Slam Allen has been entertaining audiences around the world with his unique blend of soul and blues. For the past eight years, he has played an important role, as the lead singer and guitarist, in the legendary James Cotton Band. Music is in Allen's blood -- he got his start from his father and uncles who were known as the Allen Brothers Band. On Norwegian Breakaway, Allen will play a wide range of songs from B.B. King and Otis Redding to his own original music in the intimate Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club.

THE SECOND CITY AND HOWL AT THE MOON IN HEADLINERS

Headliners Comedy Club debuts on Norwegian Breakaway with the hilarious improvisational comedy of The Second City, as Norwegian continues its exclusive partnership with the famed troupe. For more than 50 years, The Second City has honed the skills of comedic legends such as Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Tina Fey, Steve Carell and Jason Sudeikis. The ensemble aboard Norwegian Breakaway will perform a special customized comedy revue of satirical skits, hilarious songs and inventive improvisation. The venue's design centers on a show lounge format with a small raised stage, concrete floors and brick walls with a full bar.

The world's greatest rock n' roll dueling piano show, Howl at the Moon, which received rave reviews on Norwegian Epic, will also be featured in Headliners on board Norwegian Breakaway. This total entertainment experience features talented piano players who not only entertain the guests; they make the guests part of the show. The fun is centered around two baby grand pianos and a full out rock show with Howl's entertainers playing the best music from 70's rock to hip-hop for four hours per show. Howl at the Moon, with multiple locations across the United States, encourages people to channel their inner rock star, so guests should get ready to clap, sing, dance and howl.

6-26-12 Tauck Drops 2013 Single Supplement

Tauck Drops Category 1 Single SupplementFrom All 2013 European River Cruises. Solo Traveler Savings Up To $4,676; Two New Itineraries On Tap For 2013

NORWALK, CT (June 26, 2012) Good news is at hand for solo travelers frustrated by paying a higher per-person cabin rate than cruisers sharing a stateroom with a spouse or friend. Tauck, named the "World's Best River Cruise Line" by Travel + Leisure magazine, is dropping the "single supplement" for Category 1 cabins on each of its 2013 European river cruises. The savings apply to every departure on all 14 of Tauck's European river cruise itineraries.

"The fact that we've waived the Category 1 single supplement on over 100 Tauck river cruise sailings will be welcome news to solo travelers everywhere," said Tauck CEO Dan Mahar. "What's more, the savings they'll enjoy are substantial." According to Mahar, the savings are as high as $4,676 (on Tauck's 24-day, trans-European cruise), and the average savings is over $2,400. Tauck is also offering savings of $1,000 off the normal single supplement on Category 3 cabins on selected sailings of eight different European river cruise itineraries. The $1,000 Category 3 savings represent an average reduction in the single supplement of nearly 40%.

Tauck river cruises were already a smart option for solo travelers heading to Europe, noted Mahar, who added that the single supplement savings now make them an even better choice. "For solo travelers organizing their own trip to Europe, all the work of planning and executing the itinerary falls entirely on their own shoulders, but with a Tauck river cruise, everything is taken care of for them," said Mahar. "And of course, there's a camaraderie and connection with their fellow travelers, plus a great sense of security, that solo travelers don't get to enjoy on their own. Finally, because our riverboats hold just 118 guests, they offer a refined, club-like atmosphere that's very intimate and welcoming for anyone traveling on their own."

NEW CRUISE ITINERARIES FOR FAMILIES AND ART LOVERS

Along with the solo traveler savings, Tauck's 2013 river cruise plans include the launch of two new itineraries on the Rhone, "Bon Voyage: France Family River Cruise" (part of the Tauck Bridges collection of family-specific trips), and "Artistic Impressions: Monte-Carlo to Paris" which highlights art culture and history. The 10-day Tauck Bridges family cruise begins with an included two-night hotel stay with guided sightseeing in Paris that includes the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre and a special dinner at Fouquet's. Guests then travel on the high-speed TGV train to Lyon, where they'll board Tauck's MS Swiss Emerald for a seven-night cruise on the Rhone.

A number of special activities in Paris and during the river cruise add to the fun, including a scavenger hunt in the Louvre, the opportunity to play petanque in Viviers, a hayride in the Camargue, kayaking in the shadow of Pont du Gard, and the chance to sample local chocolates and prepare simple French dishes in Tournon. Tauck is offering three departures of "Bon Voyage: France Family River Cruise," on July 11, July 25 and August 1, 2013. The cruise is priced from $4,690 per person, plus air.

Tauck's art-inspired "Artistic Impressions: Monte-Carlo to Paris" itinerary begins with guided sightseeing and an included two-night stay at the Fairmont Monte Carlo in Monaco before guests board the MS Swiss Emerald in Arles. Special art-themed activities during the subsequent nine-night Rhone cruise include guided tours of the Chagall and Matisse museums in Nice, as well as the Jean Cocteau Museum in Menton. Guests will also trace van Gogh's footsteps in Arles, and explore the works of Cezanne in the Granet Museum in Aix-en-Provence.

In addition, guests will view Roman antiquities at Vienne's Musees Gallo-Romains and enjoy tours of Beaux Arts museums in both Dijon and Lyon. The itinerary ends with an included two-night stay at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe in Paris, where guests will get a behind-the-scenes tour of an artist's studio and choose between guided tours of the Louvre or the Musee de Rodin. Departures for "Artistic Impressions: Monte-Carlo to Paris" are May 17 and September 18, 2013, and the 14-day itinerary is priced from $7,190 per-person, double occupancy, plus air.
