Hi Hayle,
We cruised late Sept. last year, in fact over Labor day week-end. Weather can really be almost anything, and expect some rain along the way, pack som rain gear, or plenty of the stores sell the cheap poncho's for $10. Just pack and dress in layers, we actually had a few afternoon's in the 70's, so throw in at least 1 pair of shorts.

There is a good Alaska cruising guide, here is the link:

I also wrote a review of Celebrity Infinity with pics at the end:

Have a great Alaska cruise!

Late Sept sailing is not Labor Day??? I have sailed this week twice- at a deep bargain and on a second yearly trip. It is far better earlier. Anyway, you need to be prepared for less than ideal conditions, expect rain, temp 40-60, dusk by 7pm, so plan tours very carefully. Salmon runs are over in some areas. Take layers, rain gear, 2 pair of walking shoes. Best is to look over a shore excursion list and narrow down your interests- then repost. Some tours will not be suitable possibly that late. Keep checking rates and expect to pay less than earlier trips, I have seen this week in the $500 range. Balconies are cold so if you get one, be certain to take you warm clothes and don't expect to eat breakfast out there.

Sorry,
Meant to say late Aug. last year. There were only 2/3 weeks left after we cruised and from what I heard from some of those cruisers, the weather did say nice.....so you just never know, be prepared for anything....

We did get a great price on our cruise, I was looking at prices so that we could start saving for a cruise for possibly next year and when we saw the price for this cruise we felt that we couldn't do better and the price for the 2 of us is what we had expected to pay for 1 to go, that is why we chose this date. We are from Portland OR so a little rain wont bother us, but we certainly wouldn't mind nice weather :0) just so excited to be cruising that we want to make the most of our trip. We don't have a lot of extra $$$ to do some of the more expensive excursions. We thought we would pick one excursion to go on for the whole trip and want to pick one that we will have a great time on. The other ports we will explore on our own. So we are going to be at Jeauno, Skagway, and Ketchican and want to pick an excursion that isn't too long but at the port that would have the least to explore on our own. We are just happy to get to go!

Good weather is not the norm late Sept Alaska touring.

We are from Portland OR so a little rain wont bother us

It generally isn't a little. Steady all day pour, cold, damp. Be prepared and stay dry!!! Always take 2 pair of walking shoes, an excellent "trick" I have been using for years, is to place a dry hand towel into the shoes, the wick action dries them out by the next day. It is worthwhile to go late, only with deep discounts, but don't make it your "one and only trip".

Gayla;

We're going on the Infinity, leaving Vancouver Sept. 19th, so very interested in the replies you got. This will be our first cruise to Alaska and our first with Celebrity, so a double reason for excitement....All the others (6) have been to find the Sun (we're from Vancouver,BC area-so you can appreciate that !) and all have been with Princess. Looking forward to a change in decor and scenery.

Donna:

Thanks so much for a great review and for the pictures. It's so nice to look at actual pics of the ship's interior...especially cabins..we'll be in 8096...makes you feel comfortable getting on a new-to-you-ship and gives you something to look forward to.

Gayla:

Forgot to mention....we're only booking the Train trip in Skagway....not too adventurous at that time of year...will just do walking tours in the other ports.

Be sure to consider the pm train if offered so as to allow you time to take one or more of the free walking tours of Skagway offered by the Park service. In Juneau- consider the Alaska state museum or the Juneau Douglas city museum, both worthwhile, and the free self guided of the capital (if still offered due to security?) a farther walk is the Last Chance Mining museum. Pass by the governor's house- nice totem out front. Ketchikan- pick up a walking tour map at he dock visitor center- head up the Fox funicular ($1-2) and out back there are a collection of poles, walk back via the "married man't trail) head up Park to the small hatchery and Totem Heritage museum- worth the combo $10 ticket, cont through the city park and return via Deermount- good look at residential areas. Worth while as well is the Tongass Museum, the city and Creek St are interesting as well.
