How close are you to your nearest cruise port - and is it the one you use most often?
Moi - Out here in the hinterlands the closest port is NYC (700 miles) or maybe Mobile (not sure). I've not used either.

I live [20 miles] from the port of Boston, and have only cruised out twice..We left in a blizzard for the media cruise, on the NCL Gem last year, & it was just amazing to see a foot of snow on the pool deck...!!!
The other time was a 3 day cruise up to Canada, when the Fascination came over early, and was doing short cruises, before heading south, which is where I prefer to crusie from, preferably from Lauderdale:)

The closest port to us is Tokyo; around 5 km. Yokohama is around 40 km. I haven't sailed out of either; we took the bullet train to Osaka for our one cruise out of Japan; a trip of less than three hours.

I'm new here, but thought I would just jump right in. I hope you don't mind!
The closest port to us would be Mobile, AL. Up until a few weeks ago we didn't care to embark from there on the Holiday, but now that the Fascination is docking there, we might entertain it.
I'm glad you jumped in!!!
I'm in Minnesota so there isn't much in the way of cruise ports around here. Unless I can find a Great Lakes cruise out of Duluth or a riverboat out of St. Paul. Otherwise it's New York at 1200 miles or Mobile, Galveston, or New Orlean, which are all about 1300 miles away.
There is always a flight in my cruise plans.

I live about 3 miles from the Port of Québec,I took Princess twice to go to FLL in l3 days, the next one a year later to Barbados in l9 days.Very interesting cruise from my place but this only happen in the fall season. Many ships cruise line come during this time and the pier is very close to place.
Have a good day, MTL
Okay, I've only been here one day and I'm already embarassing myself. I must correct my earlier post, the Fantasy is coming to Mobile, not the Fascination... Although I would gladly cruise on either ships!
45 Miles from the Port of Tampa. We've sailed out of there lots! 3 or 4 aboard "Miracle". 3 or 4 aboard "Legend", and 4 aboard "Inspiration". Also done 2 or 3 cruises aboard RCI ships out of tampa as well. Legend of the Seas for one, and I really don't recall the others. GREAT port!
Closest is probably Port Canaveral, but never cruised from there. Ft Lauderdale is next closest and have cruised from there 4 times. Next would be Miami and 2 from there. Tampa is definitely 3 hours from us, never cruised from there but would be great to do, as our grandchildren are there. Someday.

Bayonne, NJ is our closest. About an hour's drive. Used it for Canada/NE on the Connie, but X has nothing else there for us except a repo after they finish the season for NE. Wish a Celebrity ship would do more from Bayonne. No interest in Royal Carib or Azmara ships.
Closest is Baltimore - about 1.5 hour away. Did a cruise to nowhere from there. I did a cruise out of NY (4hrs) this summer and loved it. Now that Carnival is going out of Baltimore there will be more options, so I probably will try next summer.
2 Royal Caribbean
1 American Hawaii
Holland America 1/15/11
I am 1hr and half from NYC port. Used it twice and will use it this Saturday again - Victory, Canada/NE.
Used Bayonne on X once. Was extremely better than NYC...walked off the bus and boarded almost immediately. Unfortunately, X will not be my choice for a future cruise. Sticking with Carnival. Maybe Baltimore will be a possibility for me in 2 years when I sail again.
Yikes, after reading how far some people live from cruise ports, I count myself lucky to live just west of Orlando...I've sailed out of Port Canaveral (the best as far as staff efficiency and Port organization is concerned), Port Everglades (crazy and disorganized) and Miami (they're getting better).
I'm closest to San Francisco. However, I cruise more often out of Long Beach or San Diego. Because of the lack of choices cruise out of San Francisco, plus the traffic is crazy. I took my Alaskan cruise from there it is about 5 hours closer then Long Beach. I wish they would do more cruises out of San Francisco it's fun crusing under the Golden Gate Bridge.

We live in Tampa Bay area, so guess what our closest is. 8)
However, we have also sailed out of Canaveral, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale. Basically, any port we can drive to or take a cruise bus. But, there is a bridge that sets the upper limit on cruise ships out of Tampa and since we prefer the smaller ships, that's first choice. Going on Legend is 2 months.....seems like 2 decades.

NYC and I have never cruised from there and probably never will. I prefer Miami or FLL

Atlanta here... not really close to any major port. Port Canaveral is about 8-9 hours away by auto. Charleston, SC is 5-6 hours but very few cruise opportunities.
The good thing is we do have a great airport that has direct flights to almost any port anywhere. BUT... flying is such a pain these days. I timed our last trip to Port Canaveral via Orlando and flying only saved us about an hour timewise, given gettting to the airport early, checking in, waiting, picking up luggage, etc. I often envy those living in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area - they are so close and can go at a moments notice. But, again another but, there are the hurricanes.

We are 200 miles from N.O. and Houston. Galveston just a bit further.
Have sailed out of them mostly but also Miami, Seattle, Vancouver San Juan, Dover, Southhampton and Civitiviccia. DD lives in Galeston so that's our favorite - leave the car at her house and hug the grandbaby!

We are only 65-70 miles from Galveston and less from the Houston port. Never sailed out of Houston only once on Grand Princess 2005 loved that ship but she's moved on...Carnival, please bring her back or another Princess ship. Can't wait to see what ships will cruise out of the new Houston Bayport Terminal. Did the old Big Red Boat in '97 out of Port Canaveral.
We are about 1/2 hour from the port of Seattle thats gives me Alaska done that twice, we just got back from the Seattle to Miami thru Panama Canal 6200+ sea miles then Miami to Seattle air miles about 3000 miles
3 weeks and loved it completely
[/i] We are about 1 1/2 hrs. from Port Canaveral & Tampa, 4 1/2 hrs. from Fort Lauderdale & 5 hrs. from Miami. Don't use Tampa much. The other 3 we use pretty evenly. It's nice being in Florida having such a variety of ports we can drive to.
