Here are several advantages Cruises offer over typical vacations that you probably never heard before.

are surprised by how much it offers

There is probably no nation on earth where the concept of the "family vacation" is more codified and traditional than the United States. The reason is this is the only major developed nation where the average amount of vacation time given by employers each year is just two weeks, whereas in Europe the average is six weeks. This short amount of time granted to mom and dad to be away from work makes it more important to Americans than ever to gather up everyone in the family to spend time together.

But family vacations have changed in the last few generations. Back in the 1970s the family would all get in the family car and drive to a destination together; a beach house, national park or the home of relatives. But since the growth of Disneyland-like destinations, vacations have been transformed from time spent visiting friends and family to more time at places that provide fun organized diversions, for the young and young at heart.

I could not agree more. When we first cruised in 2004 with our sons, 15 and 11 at the time, it was perfect. There were planned activities for the kids that they enjoyed. We could give them a bit of freedom while we were able to relax by the pool or enjoy an adult comedy show. We all got together for dinner and excursions. The excursions gave us all an opportunity to do new things (cave tubing, for example). We ALL had a blast! And it cost no more than a week in Orlando (and us old folks were less exhausted!).
We have cruised 2 more times since, the most recent with just one son, age 19. It was a different experience. No more kids programs, but he checked out the casino and enjoyed some of the shows, etc. Still lots of Bang! for our $. We probably got to enjoy his company more than if we had done a traditional vacation because he probably would not have come!! But who can turn down a cruise???

Cruising is the best bang for the buck! Everytime I look into a land based vacation, I get excited then I look at the costs to be incurred. Then, a cruise gets purchased.

Amen Paul! The truly wonderful thing about cruising is that you unpack just once, yet you see many different wonderful places. A cruise is a truly relaxing vacation! You can be as busy as you want or relaxed as you want. You never have to cook or make your bed, you can meet many wonderful people or you can basically keep to yourself, it is all up to you!
