My husband and I are booked on HAL's Amsterdam 10/6 sailing out of Seattle that will circle the Pacific Ocean for 63 days - anyone else out there booked on the ship (its a sell out) - would like to chat about tours, etc. Dress Code on long cruises with HAL?

Hi,
We are booked on the 2007 Pacific Rim cruise.
We are interested in visiting the Terra Cotta Soldiers in Xian and have found the excursion rates of almost an extra $4000, very pricey. Do you have any suggestions as other ways to see the soldiers?
thanks ann
I'm jealous We have been on two 30 day plus HAL cruises. They try to place the formal nights on days at sea so as not to disrupt your ashore activities. HAL is not as formal is it used to be. My guess is that you will now see about 60 to 65% dark suits as opposed to tuxes on formal nights, and some people just wear a nice sports jacket and tie. I took some very nice Hawaiian shirts that I wore in the tropics on some informal nights and all casual ones. My wife dressed accordingly, but I'm no expert on what women wear.
One nice thing is that all HAL ships except the new great big ones that never get out of the Caribbean or Mexican Riviera, have laundries so you can do the laundry occasionally on at sea days. There is no need to over-pack on a long cruise, but when you cross climate zones, you have to take clothes for more than one climate.
