Default Pre night hotel downtown Miami vs. South Beach

Hey everyone,

I will be on the CCL Spirit on Deb. 17th out of Miami. I will be arriving in Miami on Dec. 16th and staying at either S. Beach or downtown Miami. I have read several posts regarding great savings on downtown Miami. Is it any easier to stay downtown vs. South Beach? Do you get any good savings on S. Beach on Priceline? My TA at Carnival recommended several on S. Beach. Any savings is a blessing.

Any advice is appreciated!

Hello, I jsut got back 1 1/2 weeks ago from my cruise, stayed in South Beach after cruise. I think it depends on what you are looking to do, if you just want to relax I would say stay near the port (there are shops and restuarants to eat at). But if you want beach time and more of an active pace south beach is probably the place to go. We stayed at the South Seas Hotel on 17th, it was nice, not a resort but not trashy either. It was 99 a night but free continental breakfest in the morning (bagels, cereal, fruit, etc. ). But I am 22, I honestly didnt care for the south beach area too much (not sure if it was I had toooo much fun on the cruise and was worn out) but I expected the "art decco" district to be nicer and maybe thats why I didnt care for the area? But pretty place to relax and meet many different types of people.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn South Beach precruise - $45 through priceline. We wanted to be able to relax on the beach to start our trip out. We thought it was perfect. We relaxed on the beach for a couple of hours and then spent the evening at Lincoln Road Mall. This is an area that is closed off to cars for a couple of blocks of restaurants, bars, shopping and great people watching! We thought it was a great way to start our vacation. I hope this helps!
