cigars and enjoying them!
We are cruising in March, on the Carnival Triumph.
Does the Western Caribbean have any good deals on cigars, and can they be smoked any where aboard ship? If I do wish to smoke are my only options on shore?
Thanks!

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
Yes there are a number of great places to buy your cigars including onboard the ship itself. You may smoke your cigar in the lounge on deck 4 directly below the disco. You may also smoke it outside on deck or on your balcony but please be aware of others in your area so as not to offend.

Re: Re: cigars and enjoying them!
I just have to say, that I am tired of all the "smokers on the balconies offending me" responses. If I want to smoke a cigar or a cigarette, then I will, I will not ask permission from any of my neighbors. You paid for your trip and I paid for my trip. I will enjoy it how I please. If I get a nasty request from a neighbor about my smoking my response to them will be too bad. So to all you non-smokers, hope you don't have a cabin next to me!

JH, spoken like the true gentleman / lady that you obviously are.
It would truly be unfortunate for you if you had a balcony neighbor on your next cruise that had a bad case of gas and spent all week on the balcony expelling same for your comfort and enjoyment.

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
They will not allow a travel iron BUT they do allow smoking in the cabins?
Is this correct?

Yes, a lady that I am, I sometimes like to toke off a good cigar once in a great while. However, I definately will enjoy my cigarette on my balcony. If it offends you so be it.

Re: Re: Re: cigars and enjoying them!
You know what, I am not a smoker but I used to be. I actually love the smell of a cigar when I am in the proximity.
I say enjoy your cigar on your balcony!
Also - obviously, the main attraction in the Caribbean for smokers is Cuban cigars which are available on all the islands, but not on the ships (because they visit US ports). But be very careful about buying a Cuban cigar in anyplace that does not have a humidor and a big selection. Not only might they be stale as anything, they might even be fakes. Go to a reputable dealer.

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
While it is allowed it is still the nice and proper thing to do to insure that your smoke does not bother others. By smoking on your balcony you are obeying the rules. What determines the type of person you are is how you obey the rules as well. I was a fairly heavy smoker many years ago and while I tried not to bother others there were times I truely was not aware it bothered people. Now I am pretty sensitive to smoke, (I can tell a smoker when they walk by even outside), but understand the difficulties of quitting and do not condemn anyone that still smokes. If fanatics on both sides would stop the 'in your face' confrontations we would all be better off.

Thank you JH. You inconsiderate people were the force that drove the non-smoking law in all restaurants and bars in California and NY State where I live.
Again, THANX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jlk

Well said, Jim. Although I don't see too many of the people on either "far side" taking your good advise.

Ed, I deleted your post as it was 'too' aggressive toward another individual and pretty much fell under the no personal attack rule. As I cannot get your e-mail I was not able to notify you as we always try to do whenever we delete or edit anything.

Re: Re: cigars and enjoying them!
Dear JLKOAG, It doesn't bother me in the least that the laws have changed and we cannot smoke in bars and restaurants, that perfectly fine with me, I don't freak out that I cannot have a cigarret when I'm at a bar or restaurant. The law is the law which I do not break. However, when I am on my vacation and when I choose to have a smoke on my balcony, I resent it when others voice their agressions that they cannot enjoy their balcony because of people smoking in theirs. Well, there's not a whole lot anyone can do except to deal with it, and that's all that I'm saying on this subject, to deal with it.

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
As an ex-smoker and a law-abiding individual, I have to agree with JH's attitude here. She is merely enjoying her smokes in a legal and inoffensive manner, and that's certainly her right. I would think that smoke dissipates rather quickly on a balcony, especially if the ship is underway. If I'm sitting out on my balcony and I'm somehow bothered by the smoke from an adjacent balcony, I'll simply go inside and close the door. Then I'll go down to the casino and let a few people blow smoke into my face.<S>

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
ok maybe its just me, but i have yet to have smoke filter onto my balcony from anothers.
There are dividers between the balconies and the ocean breeze usually takes the smoke/smell out to sea, and if you did smell it how would you know where it came from unless you knocked on your neighbors door??????.
I think it is fine if you want to smoke on your balcony. There are also cigar bars and lounges on some ships for those who want to enjoy a fresh cigar in the company of other cigar lovers.
i am a non-smoker and i do totally appreciate a smoker, who in a common/crowded area has the courtesy to ask me " Do you mind if i smoke?" If you do mind the smoke, then a polite yes it bothers me, thank-you for asking, is all it takes for most decent folks to either go somewhere else to smoke, or to wait until later.
Common courtesy and kindness to others -- thats what its all about.

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
As a ex-smoker I am usually pretty sensitive to cigarette smoke and was never bothered by it anywhere on the ship. Our neighbor was smoking on his balcony and I wouldn't have known had I not seen it in his hand as he leaned out a little. Even if it had bothered me I don't think he spent that much time smoking on the balcony!

Re: cigars and enjoying them!
Although I was aware that my neighbors were smoking on their balcony (could smell it and hear their HORRIBLE morning coughing fits), it didn't bother me at all. The wind whips the smoke away pretty quickly.
The cigar smoke in the closed-in Ivory Bar bothered me, but I understood the cigar smokers had a perfect right to be there. Unfortunately, our favorite jazz band played there most of the time and we would come back to our cabins reeking of cigar smoke.
You can't (or at least you shouldn't) complain about smoke when the smokers are staying within the smoking guidelines. If a smoker on the balcony bothers you *that* much you should consider an inside cabin.
