Default Buffet chafing dishes

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if chafing dishes at buffet stations on Cruise ships use "Sterno pots" also known as gel pots and wick burners. Any light on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The buffets have their own "steam tables" and no sterno is used. I have never seen sterno used and it probably isn't because there are no open flames on a cruise ship. All stoves, ovens and heating units are electric. No gas appliances on the ship.

Take care,
Mike

Sterno is now illegal on cruise ships.

Fixed buffet lines have "bain maries" that are usually heated by steam.
Portable buffet chafing dishes are usually electric.

Bruce and Mike M,

Thanks a million for your reply. Could you takea look at this product and let me know if it would work or be permitted on ships. I truly appreciate your help.
