We're taking Princess from SF to Sydney and Holland America from Sydney to LA. We've never been to this area and are looking for advice, especially on shore excursions. For instance, both lines have "Lord of the Rings" tours, but HA's is twice the time (8 hours) and twice the price. Do we really see a lot of the fantastic scenery from those movies on both tours or is one better? Any other shore excursion advice?

If you get the chance to visit the original set of Hobbiton, your in luck as they are rebuilding it for the up coming filming of "The Hobbit".
Its in Matamata apparently and Tauranga is the closet port stop around NZ.
We have never tried Holland America, but your cruise sounds great. We still want to try the land down under, have a great trip, and take plenty of pictures.
