Default Titanic Cruise from Boston 2012

I just read the elevator news headlines in my office building that Azamara is offering a unique cruise from Boston to the area where the Titanic sank. Wow - I would love to book that (being from Boston), but I'm not sure i can afford the $3900 pp inside.

The cruise is sailing 4-10-2010 and stops at Halifax too.

I've never been on this line, but this may push me to try it. Is anyone here going? Is this line much different than CCL or Princess?

To be able to say, you were there, at such a high cost, for many would be going a bit overboard..pun intended....I hope the schedule the exact coordinates in the middle of the day, and NOT in the middle of the night!

Good one!!!! I may just have to watch Titanic again now that I'm thinking about it. Maybe a cheaper memory would be for me to take the orangeline into town that day and just watch as the ship sails away with out me

I will be on this cruise. The cost may be a little steep, but it's much cheaper than the other ship going to the wreck site, where cabins are around $4500 to start, plus Americans would have to fly to Heathrow and then take the train at their own expense.

This trip from Boston includes an excursion in Halifax, and will have descendants from actual passengers of Titanic on it. For one of the three memorial services, the Azamara band on board will play some of the same songs the actual Titanic band played.

I was there in 1996.. well done on your memory! The two cruise ships were the Island Breeze and the Royal Majesty. The RM has been renamed a time or two, and was the recent ship that took a rogue wave and two passengers died.

This trip, based on the itinerary, will be a special trip. The Journey is a perfect ship - not too large, but exquisite so that every passenger will get extra special treatment.

Guess I am not that old then I hope you have a fantastic time! There is a Titanic expo that recently opend In Branson Mo, I think...Regis mntione it, and went down for the opening..anoter in Orlando I believe...

I went to the Boston traveling show, years ago, after they pulled up the huge hull piece..It was hanging in, and dripping when we saw it, and I gathered some rusticles off the floor..so, I have a piece of the original...

I was a part of the 1998 Expedition that left from Boston, and the Big Piece was brought to the exhibit across from the World Trade building. You're fortunate to get some of the washed off residue...

The Pigeon Forge Titanic experience is where Regis was last Thursday. I was at the opening (had VIP tickets). The Branson version is owned by the same man, and according to stats, 1 out of every 7 visitors to Branson tour the exhibit there. The Pigeon Forge exhibit is very nice - it was crowded on opening day, but I look forward to seeing it when the crowds thin a little.

One of my good friends worked the Titanic exhibit in Boston. He had some excellent stories. He'll be with us on the trip, sharing his exhibit stories.

If my memories serves...there was a man's suit,[maybe gray?] with a pair of lavendar/purple socks, that just struck me, of all the things I saw....I thought, boy, this man was a dandy, with style....I loved every minute of the tour....Sounds like you have a meaningful connection..how wonderful for you..I am a bit envious

That lavender suit was a spectacular piece. Even the socks still had the folding creases in it from 1912.

It is those pieces, and the people that they belong to, that helped design this 2012 trip. To stand on deck at the site, around 11:30 PM, and look out over the exact spot where Titanic sank... I could feel it. I could feel the energy.

Did you see the child's marbles? Those caused a few tears.

Wow - all that history so close to home (for me anyway). I wish I had the extra funds to book that. To me, it would be a "once in a lifetime" type trip. I think it would be chilling & sobering to be on deck at the sight where it sank. All those souls lost in such a horrible accident.

I wonder if this trip will be advertised more once the date gets closer?

I wish i knew how to advertise it better. The local newspapers did a small story, but not enough to get it to the AP, where it would go worldwide. We did have a nice article in the USA Today online edition (the website had 1500 hits in just 48 hours). If any of you have suggestions, I'll be forever grateful, and treat you to a bottle of wine if you sail with us! :-D

I would love to see this hit the loca media!! I wonder if Facebook or Twitter would help get the word out? I'm not on either one of those sights, but I seem to be the minority

How could people, especially around here, not be interested in such a historic cruise?

I talked with a couple of newspaper people, and they think Titanic is "old news" and that the public isnt interested in it any more.

I'm with you. When I started planning this, though it is a bit more expensive than an ordinary Caribbean venture, I knew there would be a STRONG interest in it. I see the interest snowballing as it gets closer to the actual date.

I will probably go to the dock and watch the ship sail (since I won't be on board)

Where is the first terminal? Is that Black Falcon Pier? Can the public get in there with out tickets? I really want to watch the ship sail off - at least I can say I was there to see it sail off with out me HAHAHAHA. Too bad there wasn't a lounge with huge windows for the onlookers...

we anticipate it being Black Falcon.

We have a celebrity with us. Frank Goldsmith will be on board with us. His father and grandmother survived the sinking while his grandfather were lost. We're excited to have him share the stories of his family on that fateful trip.

More descendants are going to join us if we can fill this ship over the summer.

It will be very special. I like the memorial vigil, where passengers on our ship will hear the timeline of the sinking in real time, intermixed with anecdotes of things that are happening throughout Titanic.

Then the Journey's orchestra will play the same songs Titanic's band played that evening, while we are all outside around the pool area. We'll sing "Nearer My God to Thee", just as they did 100 years before.

I just got a chill reading your post - that music will be so somber & emotional. There is an article on the Bostonchannel.com's website today about "Kate Buckley" from the oritinal Titantic - how she was one of only a few Irish immigrants who's body was found and brought to shore for burial. If you are interested in reading it and can't locate it online, let me know and I'll be happy to email you the story.

I received your email about Kate Buckley's story. Thank you for sending it!

You're exactly right about the remembrance vigil. It will be overwhelmingly emotional, especially as the last hour unfolds, the lifeboats depart, and husbands and fathers say goodbye to their wives and children... while we show a photo of the family behind us.

Titanic enthusiasts from all over the world have emailed about this trip, and what we're doing. I've received inquiries from Australia to Germany to Ireland, and already have people booked from three countries. It will truly be a pilgrimage for those who have studied the story - there will never be another 100th anniversary, nor an anniversary like this in our lifetimes.

This trip only has about 200 cabins left. I hope the interest keeps up in it.

I'm just back from the Emerald Princess - so I'm running behind on my posts!!

I'm glad the ship is selling out - it is such an important and historical event that I feel the more that can attend it, the better. But, I must say I'm sort of shocked that it has only 200 cabins left this far in advance. I hope this cruise will generate more stories or interesting facts that hit the media. I had no idea that only a fraction of the bodies were ever recovered. And reading that tid-bit about Kate just makes me want to know more of the "behind the scenes" things.

I wasn't sure my email went through - I'm glad you enjoyed the article

I saw another page to the Buckley story this weekend. I saw where she now has a marker that tells about her. Thanks again for the heads-up on the story!

If it sinks on the exact same spot, now, that would make history!

That would indeed make for a news story, plus, with the expedition ship on site as well as the network production teams, it would be captured for all to see.

There is a chance icebergs will be in the vicinity - rare, but they were there 100 years before.....
