Default east carib.Nassau St Thomas & St Maarten

From experience, does anyone know of any good activities, places to eat, or shore excursions on these islands? (Carnival Glory East Caribbean)

Also, if we decide to do a snorkeling excursion, is it necessary to know how to swim? Thanks

You do not need to know how to swim to go on snorkel excursions - they will give you life vests. Just know that some of the excursions stop in deep water. If you want to walk in to the water to snorkel, check the excursion out first.

Nassau - last time in Nassau we got a tour guide at the end of the pier who took us around the island, over to Atlantis and the Digs for $25 pp. It was great.

St. Thomas - There are lots on nice beaches here. You don't need to take an excursion to get to them. There are lots of taxis avaliable when you get off the ship. Megan's Bay is beautiful. You can go to St. John to snorkel if you want. If this is your first cruise, you would probably feel safer taking the ship's excursion over there. If you are adventurous, you can easily do it on your own. Trunk Bay is fabulous!

St. Maarten - the America's Cup Regatta is the top rated excursion in the Caribbean and deserves the title! You and other cruisers are the crew for boats that once raced in the America's Cup Regatta. Everyone has a job, some more strenous than others. St. Maarten also has the world famous Orient Beach. There are LOTS of taxis at the end of the pier that will take you there.

If you go off on your own, just be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship.

Have fun planning!

Nassau - take a taxi- either water or land over to Paradise Island to experience the Dig at Atlantis. This aquarium is amazing! Taxis are plentiful.
St. Thomas - beautiful beaches, really good snorkeling. Sapphire would be my top pick for a beach on St. Thomas proper. Consider getting over to St. John Island - the beachs are breathaking and the snorkeling is amazing. Trunk Bay is the most popular with its marked snorkel trail. go to www.vinow.com for great info on beaches and ferry schedules. You can do it on your own, and your time would be your own.
If you want to do some shopping, this island is a good place. You can shop at either Havensight Mall(where you will most likely dock) or downtown Charlotte-Amaile. Both places have about the same anchor stores, but downtown has more local things.
A short walk from the pier is the Paradise Point Tramway - you can spend an hour or the whole day here, the view is amazing. There are shops, restaurants, a beautiful botanical garden.
St. Maarten - beautiful beaches, really good snorkeling and really good shopping. We did the Golden Eagle Catamaran tour and had a total blast. Its fun, the sail is gorgeous, the water is nice, the snorkeling is good and the beach is very nice. In St. Maarten you will dock on the Dutch side of the island, if you want to shop, just grab the water ferry- its really cheap and it takes you right into downtown. I like shopping in St. Maarten over St. Thomas. IF you want some higher end shopping then grab a taxi and head over to the French side.

We visited St. Maarten on our cruise last month on the Valor and loved Orient Beach...beautiful water and soft sand, lots of restaurants and bars. We arranged a designated pick-up time with our taxi driver and had plenty of time when we returned to the pier to take the water taxi at the end of the pier ($5/person for all day) to the shopping area, it was great!!!

Tracy - just a heads up, the really popular excursions like the Golden Eagle and the America's Cup Regatta sell out really fast, if you want to do them, book them on line NOW.
