No your meals in the dining room are including in the cruise. You don't pay for them. It's been so long since our last cruise I can't remember what else we did pay for. Maybe if you take a look at Carnival's website you can get more information. I'm sure everything you need to know is on there.
Simply, yes you have to pay for soda and alcohol drinks in the dining room. They do offer complimentary coffee, ice tea, hot tea, milk, maybe lemonade but not sure. On the Spirit last November, after dinner Capacinos (sp) were also complimentary. We bring our own Pepsi on board in our carry on and have taken a can or two to dinner. I can't tell you how many people have stopped by and asked where we got a Pepsi, even offering $ for the other can. We gladly just shared. Enjoy!

Was your question about drinks in the dining room or meals? Soda and alcoholic beverages are not included with the meals. I think the only beverages included are iced tea.
No, meals from the buffets, grill (pool side), pizza, and the dining rooms are included. Read your carnival capers (news letter) to see which specialty restraunts are extra. There is a charge for soft drinks, wine, beer, mix drinks, supper club and some suichi bars.
If you purchase one of the fountain cards for your younger ones, they need to carry that to dining room in order to get their free sodas there. The bar staff person will just ask to see it before they take the order. If you order alcohol, you will need your S&S card just like if you ordered a drink at the bar. Cappucino and expresso were complimentary at dinner with dessert on the Inspiration in January.
