Door Decorations

Has anyone ever decorated their door or balcony? I did it on Celebrity Summit and never had anyone take it down or mess with it. I heard that alot of the door decorations on Carnival are stolen or taken down or moved. Does anyone have any experience with this? And what do you do to decorate the door? Any suggestions?

I didn't decorate anything. It was pretty easy to find my door and we weren't with a group. I did see other people put stuff up though.

I've decorated my door on my last 3 Carnival cruises, and no one has ever bothered them. First time it was over Halloween, so I put a bunch of pumpkin and leaf cutouts. I used the same decorations on my last 2 (just got off the Glory on Saturday - want to go again!!). I went to a party store and got some big (18 inches) fish and put 2 of those on and a sun that has one of those center crepe paper like things that opens up and makes it 3D looking. It was always easy to find our room, and we got a lot of favorable comments.

Were the 18" fish already cut out in the foam or did you have to make the fish yourself? What did you attach it with? I love the 3D sun idea. Did you just open it half way or the whole way?

We decorated our door on our last cruise and didn't have any problems with it being removed or messed with.

This year we are decorating our doors by putting up different colored card stock and each person in our cabin will decorate part of the door with stickers that represent things that they enjoy or hobbies that they have. This way at the end of the cruise we can remove the card stock and each person can take home their section as a keepsake.

we have decorated our door in the past and have never had any problems you wont either unless your decorating it with 100 dollar bills then you might come up a few shy

I'll have to remember that..........no 100 dollar bills for decorations

Criscomia,

The fish were on cardstock type of paper. I got them at the party store. They were flat and very colorful - both sides, so they could face either direction. I hung them with sticker type things that you hang pictures up with (maybe Scotch brand?). It was about 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. The package said it didn't hurt the paint, etc. We had no problems with it. In the past I tried masking tape and it kept falling down.

We went on our honeymmon 2 years ago on carnival pride and I had bought a little pillow to hang on the door that said Just Married and on the first night someone had stole it right off of our door.

This is some good advice! if I hang my wife from the door will someone steal her? please!!! ......Maybe if I pin a bunch of $100 bills on her!

I used magnets to decorate our door last year. I think most cabin doors are metal.

When we cruised during Christmas we saw many doors wrapped like gifts. They were really pretty!

This year I need turkeys

My last cruise last January 2005 on the Sensation, we decorated our door, I think we were the only ones, we did it like Mardi gras, since that was the closest holiday. The funny thing was, my roomie went to the casino, got a little drunk, found our deck but could not find our cabin. He he kept seeing the Mardi Gras door and thought it was neat, until he realized it was HIS CABIN door.

Too funny!!!

In addition to decorations I saw some dry erase boards on a few doors. Nice to leave one another a message but I can imagine some people may post their own comments

These are great ideas.

I went out and purchase this nylon flag that has a big huge cheery sun on it. I put magnets in all four corners and plan on putting that on my door. Let's just hope that the doors on the Valor are really metal.

We went all out on our 2nd cruise and bought little twinkly lights that are battery operated. We hung them on our door mailbox, along with pipe cleaners (colorful, sparkly kind), along with a LOVELY replica ship made out of - what else - DUCT TAPE (white) made by none other than my son, duct tape pro.

It was fun! On our last cruise we brought the lights and decorated our balcony window.

You actually have a mailbox on your door? Cool! Where did you get the battery operated twinkle lights. WOuld love to do that on the balcony.

I brouight a banner for the door but decided against that and attached it to my balcony rail - it hung there the whole cruise

A banner on the balcony railing sounds great! What kind of banner did you have made and what did it say?

Criscomia, yes there was a small mailbox-type thing that hung next to all the doors. I bought the lights at Michael's craft store.

Dorothy...........thanks for the heads up about getting those twinkly lights at Michaels......I'm definately getting them for the balcony.

Is there a certain time of the year they have them or do they carry them all year long?

They seem to carry them most of the year. I'm pretty sure I got mine in the summer. Have fun!

Is one string enough to wrap around a balcony railing?
What type and how long did batteries last? I assume you didn't leave on all the time, or did you on mail box??

Hey Suzy!
Good to hear from you! I bought 2 strands and only turned them on at night, of course. I wrapped glittery pipe cleaners around the wires so that they were easier to attached AND looked rather festive!

I used one strand on my mailbox and one strand on the balcony window. Unfortunately, they ate up the batteries pretty quickly, but I think I remember only buying batteries once on board.
