I almost always sing in the Carnival "Legends Show" on the last night of the cruise, and always have a GREAT time doing that, but I prefer singing in the passenger "Talent Show". Have you ever attended either, or both of these shows? The "Legends Show" is a far bigger production, with the Carnival dancers, and singers as well as the passengers, but the "Talent Show" allows those performing to select almost any song, or music to sing, dance, or do most anything else. (except stand-up comedy) If you've seen either, or both of these shows, what do you think of them, and which do you prefer to watch? Inquiring minds want to know?
I've seen both and to be honest the passenger talent show is the bigger "crap shoot" because it's more geared for the talent on board that week and the ability of the CD to preselect based upon the talent that they have to work with..the Legends show is pretty good but has a tendency to be more "safe' in terms of offering
Sky..I know how much you enjoy your participation and look forward to seeing you on YouTube in the near future...on the full charter smooth jazz cruises they have midnight jam sessions where passengers can actually sing or play with world class jazz artist..the high points of my jazz cruising experience were 1) when I :: allowed :: Patti Austin to sing one verse of her duet 'Baby Come To Me" with me and 2) when I sang lead on a 60's Soul song (Power To The People) and my back up bandincluded George Duke on keyboard and Gerald Albright and Brian Culbertson on sax and trombone
wisely, I kept my day job following my two live performances...
doesn't matter which one you do..just do it and enjoy yourself
I've got to go with the Talent Show as well. I know the Legends makes things more predictable for the CD and team. It seems like a lot of time is spent selecting the participants on each cruise (i.e. tonight we are looking for ...), but I guess the legends format gives people who don't want to be waiting at the pursers desk at 7 o'clock a shot at participating.
All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; John Masefield
Carnival: Glory 2004, Destiny 2008, Splendor 2009, Freedom 2011, Valor 2012, Dream 2013
Celebrity: Summit 2011
Princess: Ruby 2010, 2014, Caribbean 2013, Coral 2014, Regal 2014
Star Clippers: Royal Clipper 2015
Once youve seen one Legends show youve seen them all. They have kept the same "legends" for years. Isnt there more than 9 of them? Who says Ricky Martin is a legend anyway? He had one song I think. At least the talent show gets different music each time. Granted you never know what youre going to get but I think the cruise line believes the Legends will draw better with costumes and music everybody knows. I think its time to scrap the idea and start fresh. Maybe its just me but I think if its the same old same old I would rather be in bed the last night since I have to get up early to debark.
2008-Valor and Glory
2009-Spirit and Splendor
2010-Freedom of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas
2012-Allure of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas
I absolutely have to agree with the above statements, reference the "Legends" show. I have asked them time and time again to look into "new" legends, and I was actually told on my last cruise that it is being looked into. I agree that the current legends in the show, for the most part, are not legends, and frankly, a lot of them were NEVER legends. The exceptions, of course, are IMO Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, perhaps Garth Brooks, James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
Venice, it sounds like you have had a lot of fun on your "Smooth Jazz" cruises. I have to join you on one of those one of these days. It is such a privilege and pleasure to sing with the "pros".
Someone will probably post one of my performances on You Tube one of these days. As far as I know, I am not there yet.
I have started booking shorter cruises, and longer cruises, just because the talent show is not offered on 7 day cruises. I agree it is so much more fun, and frankly it is a lot more fun for the participants as well.
Thanks for the "feed back".
