Default Is Carnival website only/best place to find lowered rates?

We recently got an OBC when the price went down for our room/area. We did the early saver fare thru a Carnival TA. She's booking everyone in this group and while talking to someone else (who I didn't know) she noticed the price drop. She asked that person to contact me somehow & let me know about the price drop, & I was able to get the rate. I thought the agent should have called me herself but I didn't make a big deal out of it.

Knowing about this deal I had been checking Carnival's site for price drops, but it never seems to budge, so I wondered if I was looking in the wrong place so I can keep track on my own. Also, how long can I claim a price drop? This is our first cruise & we can't wait. We go in 141 days.

Thanks in advance!

You can easily claim a price drop up until the day your final deposit is due, because you have not paid the full price yet.

Did you book with the Carnival Early Savers guarantee? If so you should be able to claim a price drop up until the day before your cruise sails.

If you see a price drop you go this web site to claim it:
Early Saver Program | Carnival Cruise Lines

Here's how the Early Saver program works:

1.
When you book a 3-5 day cruise three months in advance, or 6 day or longer cruise five months in advance, you are assured the lowest rate.

2. In the unlikely event that you do find a lower Carnival-advertised rate* after booking your cruise, we will honor it and adjust your cruise rate accordingly. Simply fill out the Price Protection Claim form and we'll take care of the rest. If you booked your cruise with a travel agent and need to make a Price Protection Claim, simply contact your travel agent and they will submit it for you.

• What is the price protection assurance feature?

If, after booking, you find a lower Carnival advertised fare, Carnival will honor it, issuing the difference in the form of a non-refundable onboard credit. The lower fare must be: i) for the same ship, sailing, stateroom category and number of guests; ii) available for booking at the time you submit your request for the lower rate; and iii) a rate you are eligible to receive, if special restrictions apply. Price protection will be subject to the prevailing fees and/or fuel supplement if applicable.

• What is a Carnival advertised fare?

A Carnival.com or Carnival advertised fare available to the general public. A Carnival advertised fare excludes group rates, membership programs, charters or other Travel Agent promotions not offered by Carnival to the general public

•What should I do once I find a lower rate?

Complete a price protection claim form. If the request meets the price protection requirements, we will process your onboard credit for the fare difference and send you an email confirmation within 2 business days of your request.

• What information must be submitted for a price protection request?

Guest(s) name
Sailing information
Available cruise fare being requested
Where the lower advertised fare was found (i.e.: Carnival.com)

• When can I submit a price protection request?

Carnival will accept price protection requests up to 2 business days prior to sailing.

• How many times can I submit a price protection request?

Provided that you are eligible for the lower fare, there are no restrictions to the number of price protection requests or the requested amount.

But we have paid for our trip in full & yes via the Early Saver rate. that's why we got the OBC I thought. Thanks for this info, so basically anywhere I see a rate advertised for Carnival I can use it to get a lowered fare?

Carnival's policy is that no agent or agency can offer a lower price than Carnival. The price you see advertised from any other agency will be the same price that Carnival is offering it for.

This does not apply to "Group Rates" that agencies may offer.

The positive is that an agent or agency will offer OBC, Free Insurance, Transfers or other incentive that you will not receive with Carnival.

Take care,
Mike

Okay - so as Early Saver you can claim it until the day before the ship sails. Believe it or not, not everyone books into the "Early Saver" program although I think it is a good idea. Other cruise lines (RCL and NCL have dropped the program and price guarantees).

If you already paid in full then any price differences will be given to you in onboard credit - that is how it works.

Most people wait to pay in full for the day it is due - usually 90 days out before the cruise. But no harm in what you did.

Mike is right - all the cruise lines now have a "flat pricing" rule where no one will advertise a lower price than Carnival's - or vice-versa. It "should be" the same price no matter where you go.

Sellers of travel are not allowed to advertise a lower rate than Carnival's [and many other lines] "authorized" rate.

But a TA may quote you a lower rate when you talk with them. That rate CANNOT be used for an Early Saver OBC as it is not an advertised rate.

I check the Carnival site for pricing on our fall cruise every day. So far we've had 4 price drops, saving us over $1000.00! I just email my Travel Agent and she gets us the new price. She said pretty soon Carnival will be paying us to cruise ! Remember that your TA or PVP has many customers, so it's easier to check the rates yourself.

Any price you see openly advertised, you will also find on Carnival's website. CCL's policy does NOT allow any seller of travel to advertise a lower rate than Carnival. And by the same token, when Carnival drops prices [if they do] close to a sailing, those prices are available to ALL TA's as well.

To find TA's selling below CCL's advertised prices, you must contact that TA. The lower price comes from them giving you part of their commission.
