Default Platinum Status and VIP booking

Turning 50 in September, which will also be my 10th cruise on Carnival, which means I will reach Platinum status. I am also booking a suite for this first time ever. Part of the suite booking states I will have VIP boarding.

So, for those who have reached Platinum, or have had VIP boarding, what should I expect? Is there a separate VIP lounge prior to boarding? What are some of the other benefits of Platinum status?

Thanks as always for your replies.

Yes there is usually a separate line/lounge for VIP.

Priority boarding, priority tender, priority debark, gift in cabin, free laundry.

If you have any needs or questions there is a separate line/podium at the Guest Services desk for you to go.

Enjoy !!

Your boarding pass, as well as your luggage tags should say "VIP" on 'em. When you reach the entrance to the embarkation building, just ask the "guard" where the VIP line is, and he/she will direct you to that area. Welcome to the elite group of Carnival VIP cruisers. You'll enjoy the extra attention you receive! Now it's time to start working on the next level. "MILESTONE"

People could probably give you a more specific answer if they knew which port you were going out of.

Galveston, the VIPs go into a small room to get their cards, and then wait over by the window together generally.

New Orleans is more of a mess. Starts off well enough, they have a nice large room for check ins with juice or water and cookies, but then they dont have a specific waiting area so everyone rushes the ropes, including people who arent VIP.

Mobile, had a little tiny check in room, after I finally waited with everyone else, very disorganized at the beginning, but after I got my platinum card, they did have a roped off place to sit, next to the roped off place for the weddings.

Iv also been out of Miami and a few others, but I usually only do Carnival for drive to ports.

Tampa handles it well. You have a small office where you check in and then VIP sit in a roped off area right at the :ding: machine...

Fort Lauderdale does ok....not my favorite because the parking is such a zoo.

For Charleston, a separate line and roped off area to wait. No VIP Lounge yet.

You check in in a little office at some ports then go sit in a chair line just like everybody else and waite to be called after TAs board, marrige famileys board then you are next. Some its a counter just like everybody else, depends what port. Very few ports have a VIP Lounge and the ones that do have them are full, if your lucky you get a seat. What it all means is you get on the ship 10 to 15 min before the heard. (VIP) Very important person I think not. Sitting in a hard chair with a rope around your area is about what you can expect.

Miami has a room to go into to check in, then several nice chairs to sit in till they take you for boarding. Sometimes it is very full and there are no chairs.

Congrats on turngin 05 years old and your 10th cruise!!!! Celebrating a birthday on a cruise is the best way to do it. You'll have to make it a week long birthday party with everyday being your birthday, not just the specific day! I certainly home that someone who knows you will suprise you with a decorated cabin and a bottle of bubbly for your 05th birthday!!!

I went Platinum on my 41st birthday on the Liberty. The lounge in Miami is nice and the check in is quick. You should be able to jump the long lines of security and go to a short line and cut in right to the front.

Many people have been Platium for a while and are so over it. Me, I am NOT over it yet! I love the gift you get (I wish I could have gotten one more picture frame), and the petit fours/canapes are not too bad (except for the ones with tomatoes) even though some long-time Platinum/Milestone are bored with it. They seem to forget that those of us who are new to the Platinum category are totally new to the little extras!

Too bad you are not booking a ship with a Cloud 9 spa because you could have booked a Spa Suite and enjoyed the perks. The Splendor, Dream, and soon-to-be-launced Magic have Clound 9 spas. I went on the Splendor for my 40th and had the spa suite, which was pricy as I cruised solo and paid the full 200%, but wouldn't have had it any other way!!!!!!

I hope you have a wonderful time and you have lasting memories of your 05th birthday!!!! (Hint hint 50 backwards is 05, next year you'll be 15...)....

The VIP gift last week was a soft sided cooler - the six pack size. Very nice, with some extra pockets and an adjustable shoulder strap. Much nicer than the picture frames, IMHO.

The pastries they delivered were very nice - quite different than what we had had before. The stuffed dates were yummy.

The VIP boarding is a great perk, as is the debarkation if you're in a rush to get off.

The free entry to the slot or blackjack tournament was fun - DH came in second in the slot tournament - woohoo! Know what you get for second place? Same thing as last place ;-) But it was fun and didn't cost us anything.

We especially enjoyed getting our Ecstasy pins - even if they did say Inspiration! Oops. We had a good chuckle over that one.

Welcome to the platinum gang!

I have to say having VIP on Inspiration in 09 was the best due to the ship coming in so late. They didnít start boarding the ship until 7:00 p.m. and the line was unbelievably long. There was a line just for VIPís which we were so we pretty much walked right on. If we had to wait in that line with all of those other people I would have been pretty aggravated due to the fact we had been at Chanelside port since 11:00 am. We are VIP on Freedom in November also.

Does anyone know how VIP is handled in Baltimore? Taking my first platinum cruise from their on the 29th. I've done VIP out of Miami by booking a suite and enjoyed the experience, but got a little tired of the TV in the VIP lounge looping through an advertisement for the Art Auction ;-).

VIP in Ft Lauderdale was a separate desk and a roped off area of the main room the last time I was there. It you got there early everyone was checking in at the same place then they split the VIPs out as the crowd got bigger.

Baltimore has a little office VIP go into for checkin. About 20 chairs outside the office. Then they take you and give you a zone 1, ticket and you go inside a roped area and sit on metal chairs till you are called. Weddings and hundreds of TAs have always boarded before VIP, Sunday will be our 4th cruise on the Pride. Last Sept they put us in another big room on metal chair rows. Nothing like Miami. Carnival really needs to work on VIP areas at alot of ports.
