Default Cruiselines cut air fees

Carnival, RCI, and Celebrity are cutting TA's air fees from 10% to 5% starting Sep.15 per seperate news wires this morning. I feel sorry for all TAs and the worst part is that no savings will be passed on to the consumer. I have high hopes that as a result of this that more TAs will book air seperate from the cruiselines garbage itineraries, possibly with a small additional fee. Perhaps as a result of this more passengers will get direct flights both to the embarcation point and back.

Jim,
I think this has more to do with the airlines cutting the TA commssions than the cruise lines.
I actually think the cruise lines wouldn't mind being out of the air business entirely.

Kuki

Who can blame the TA's? If I were still one, I'd recommend that people get their own airfare also. It's just not worth the hassle of going through the cruise lines, especially for deviations!

Something to remember: A "Cruise Only" agency generally cannot book air directly with the airlines - they can only book through the cruise line.
So, if the client doesn't take the ship's air they will need to go to another agency, or book their own air directly with the airlines.
Even with the 'cut' the agency is making more off the cruise line air than if they booked directly with the airlines at a max of $20 per R/T ticket!
