Default Vegas recap

a week ago today, my family of 3 went to Vegas !! Due to the time difference, we were there @ 9:30 am.... we took a taxi (worse drivers than in NYC) & were able to check in & get into our room @ NY, NY before 10:30 !! We stayed on the 16th floor of the New Yorker Tower in a Park Avenue suite. We regrouped a little went upstairs & had some Pizza @ Nathans... keep in mind, I cant eat alot of things & ds is Vegetarian... so pizza suited us all ! Then, we walked & looked for HOURS... one hotel outdone by the next... we made it back to our room by 5:30ish... then, got ready & went to the Bellagio to see "O" !!! It was awesome, I cant believe the talents these performers have... and to do this show twice a day - WOW !!! It is totally amazing ! After the show, we headed back to NY, NY as it was well after 1 am on our time zone ! We swore that come Tuesday after we met the rest of the family for lunch we would take it easy.... HA !

Thursday - FIL calls to say they have made it to Golden Nugget & we made plans for lunch... went to Pharoah's Feast @ Luxor ! There were 11 of us by that time & you know scheduling & planning for that many tends to be crazy ! The buffet was awesome, but I was feeling a little ragged, so I opted to go back to my hotel room for rest !! My guys stayed with FIL & his best friend (honorary family member) until almost 8 pm.... guys came back & rested a bit, then we went down to Fremont Street.... there was a live band & some kind of ceremony celebrating Vegas Centennial !! There were ladies there, that I would say were in their 50s (?)... they had on red feather boas & short skirts... we couldnt hear all of the speech being made, but these ladies had been showgirls in their younger days & man, did they look good !!

Friday - we switched over to MGM Grand hotel and again got into our room fairly early... we got a room on the 17th floor overlooking part of the action, we could see all the way down to the Stratsphere. SIL & her kiddies came over, we hung out @ pool & lazy river... even thought it was close to 100 degrees, the pool water was quite chilly ! I left them all poolside & was headed up to our room for rest... but stopped in casino... by te time I was done there, everyone was done swimming. We then took SIL & her kids via monorail to Harrahs & walked to Venetian from there. We had dinner at the grill there. I thought the waitstaff to be slightly rude, but that mightve had something to do with the little kids being bratty !!

Saturday - we picked up our rental car... hung out... went to the Outlet Mall & picked up 3 pairs of Oakley sunglasses for a total of $140... these shades were normally $150 plus retail. We then went back to Golden Nugget to spend sometime w/ family. We had dinner @ the buffet there... and we (us 3) didnt care for it much.... my SIL & her daughter (5) have never met food they didnt like - so they all had a good time... when dinner was over, we headed back up to MGM as the kiddies were on our nerves AGAIN !!! DH went to "find" me some ice cream & came back with a $9 smoothie... I really wasnt hungry, but I felt so guilty @ the cost I drank the whole thing.

Sunday - drove out to Hoover Dam... it was scorching hot... basically hung out.... hubbys family flew back - so we were on our own again & NOT missing the kiddies.

Monday - crammed everything into suitcases (except sons stuff, as he refuses to check his bags) and headed for the airport, with a die trip back to Luxor for the Pharoahs feast ! We had to have car back by 1, and even though we were on 7 pm flight we THOUGHT we could @ least check our bags in... and MAYBE catch the earlier flight !! NOT !! The earlier flight was sold out, and we couldnt check our luggage until 4 hours prior to departure !! So..... we rented ANOTHER car.... and drove around some more...went to the Coke store for Coke floats (very reasonably priced) it was $26 total & it beat hanging out @ airport all afternoon. We drove out to a new housing development to look @ model homes... 1900 sq ft was $450K !! We were shocked... it wasnt even that nice and certainly wasnt special....We came to realize how lucky we are to have our Texas prices and lots of land to be had ! Made it thru security, even though the screeners threatened to keep our muffin we smuggled from buffet, and they wanted sons Ferrari die cast car... all in all, it was a nice trip... I dont recommend Vegas for anyone with kids under 15.... my son was unable to do alot of things due to age & the younger kids just had a rotten time... nephew said "I'd rather be in school, than be here"

I told dh next time his family wants a gambling vacation, we should go to Atlantic City since there is more for the kids to do along the beach & not too far to visit Niagara Falls. Thats my story... hope your happy Bill.....I didnt want to keep u waiting... lol

Take Care -
Steph

P.S. Forgot to add - dh & ds rode the coaster @ NY NY and on Monday, they went up the Eiffel Tower while I kept the chairs @ the slot machines warm !! Didnt come home a big winner, but MIl won almost $4400.... although she only got home with almost $1500... what can I say... she likes those one armed bandits !!

Steph - sounds like you had a great time! I intend to go back to Vegas myself........but will go midweek when the crowds are less and when it is a bit cooler.

I totally agree with you about the buffet at the Golden Nugget - it was not good! Now, maybe the breakfast one was good, but the supper buffet was terrible.

I also saw "O" and was totally amazed at how they did both the aerial and water routines - I'm not a big Cirque fan, but this show was really very very good.

I didn't get to the Luxor, but did have the breakfast buffets at both Paris and Mandaly Bay - both were superb!

Hey Steph:

Thanks for the story, glad to hear about ''O'', we thought it was pretty awesome also.

BTW, did you catch the water & light fountain display at the Bellagio?

Bill

I loved O also and want to see the new production number for my birthday in August

I'm from upstate New York and it's a heck of a long way from Atlantic City NJ to Niagara Falls NY unless you were planning on flying from Philadephia to Buffalo

A good recap, Steph. I don't know why people bring kids to Vegas, either. ,too, thought O was wonderful. I couldn't withstand Las Vegas for a week, though. Two nights are my limit!

So glad you had a good time (overall). I hate trying to coordinate large families into similar activities and stuff. Don't think Vegas would appeal to me for that kind of vacation.
The party at your house was terrific. The police only came a couple of times and said they would ticket the homeowners when they returned. Sorry about the dog, but the Hell's Angels guys wouldn't let us clear her off.
I thought we did a good job of cleaning up. The landscaper and trash guy said they would mail you the bill. Oh yes, the chair and tent rental guys said they would stop by this week to be paid. I also had the liquor store send the bill to the house.
Seriously. I know you live in Texas and distances don't mean much, but ,are you aware that from Atlantic City to Niagara Falls is over 400 miles and a minimum 7 or 8 hour drive?
