Default A re-introduction

Hi Cruisemates,

I recently started posting again on Chit - Chat for Cruisers. From 2002 until this year I was a "Lurker" because of medical problems with Susan (wife) and Frank (me). We are doing much, much better and have started cruising again as of January 2005.

First some background on us. I was born in Panama and lived in the Canal Zone for 14 years before moving to Southern California. Susan is a native Californian, born in Long Beach. We were married July 1, 1955 and will be married 50 years on Friday. Wow how time flies! <G> We have 4 children, two boys and two girls. With this group they have produced 7 grandchildren and two of them are twins, a girl and a boy. All of the kids and grandkids live in So. Ca. We retired in 1994 and moved to Payson, AZ and have been here ever since. Payson is in the middle of the state and is 5,000 feet in elevation. Much cooler during the Summers compared to the Valley where Desertcuzer lives. We are usually 15 degrees cooler than down in Phoenix during this time of the year. By the same token we are cooler during the Winters and get snow occasionally.

I started posting with Cruisemates in 2001 and we were booked for the first "Get Leid" cruise in May 2002. Had to cancel in March 2002 because of Susan falling and breaking both legs because of serve osteoporisis. She has endured two broken legs with 3 rods, a hip replacement and another leg surgery to correct a re-fracture because of taken out one rod to make room for the hip replacement. After much re-hab Susan is up and about with two arm crutches and works out three times a week at the Athletic Club here in town. Yeaaaaaaaaa!!

I started my problems in January 2004 with heart surgery with a quad bypass and a valve replacement. Went through my rehab and by the end of 2004 was in good shape.

Susan and I took our first cruise since 2001 in January 2005 with the Galaxy, 12 days from Galveston to the Panama Canal and Western Caribbean. We did not fly, but drove round trip from AZ to Texas. In April of this year we cruised with Carnival "Spirit", 8 days from San Diego to Mexican Riviera. In October 2005 we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary (actually July 1, 2005) aboard Crystal Harmony for 10 days Mexican Riviera.
November 2005 we will fly to Ft. Lauderdale (first time since 9/11) and board "Century", Celebrity Cruises for 9 days Eastern Caribbean. I guess you could say we are making up for lost time cruising!! <VBG>

We have two cruises booked in 2006, the first one is "Rock the Locks" with Cruisemates going thru the Panama Canal in April. September will be on "Mercury", Celebrity Cruises 7 day Alaska round trip from Seattle.

Our first cruise was on the Song of Norway, RCI, to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. After that cruise we were hooked and since then have been on 20 cruises with RCI, NCL, Princess, Celebrity, Carnival, HAL, Sitmar and other companies that have gone out of business. There has never been a cruise we didn't like!!!

This coming Friday, two of our children with their spouses and 5 grandchildren will drive from So. Cal to Payson and spend the weekend with us to celebrate the big 50th!!
The other two children cannot make it becuse of work commitments.

Nice to be posting again with Cruisemates!!!

Nice to meet you Frank, I've been around here about 2 years now, and never seen your name until recently. You are celebrating your 50th ANNIVERSARY this year, and I just celebrated my 50th BIRTHDAY! I guess that makes me a "young'un" around here!

Frank,

It's so great to hear from you again! Jose and I think of you fondly and remember the day we spent with you in Payson before the Let's Get Lei'd cruise. We were so disappointed you had to cancel that one. I'm glad to hear that Susan is getting around so well. I hadn't heard about your ill health, so I'm more than pleased to hear that you're now doing well.

I guess you've really gotten back into cruising with a passion! Good for you. I wish we could go on the Rock the Locks with the Cruise Mates, but the time frame just won't work out for Jose with his work. We did the Panama Canal repositioning on the Carnival Spirit in April 2004 - 16 night cruise plus 2 nights in Miami beforehand. I thought of you as we went through the canal and remembered the stories you told us about Panama when we visited you in Payson.

I hope the fire season is kind to you this year. It has been rough the last few years. Right now the Cave Creek Complex fire has the whole valley covered in a thick, thick layer of ugly smoke. I am praying that it not affect the people of Strawberry and Pine. Good wishes are going out your way as well.

Welcome back to Cruise Mates, and say hello to Susan for us!

Welcome back Frank and Happy Anniversary.

I am glad that things are going much better and that you are once again cruising. I look forward to seeing more of your posts and I wish I was cruising with you but hopefully that will change.

Take care,
Mike

Hi there all! Mark & Deb are back now known as the Emptynesters (once again!). Daughter had big surgery last yr, lost both of Mark's parents & then daughter & her husband had BIG hospital bills so they moved back to town & in with us. Well 10 mos later they purchased a home of their own (yipppee!) and we had a PARTY - a party for 2! Enjoying travel plans-finished scrapbook of our Virgin Islands Cruise & drooled to go on another. Going to Colorado in July, N. Minn in September (Mark has to "hunt" muskie again), Vegas for X-mas to see family, Hawaii in Jan & already have our Alaska cruise for June '06 booked!!! Oh yeah - county fair coming up soon & practicing my baking again - ***To Trip - - yes my rhubarb has been ready & I have been busy with the ice cold rhubarb daqari's again - oh yummy! In fact. I still wish I could send you that rhubarb pie in the mail but haven't figured it out yet! Missed you all!

Welcome back to the group Frank and Sharon. Glad that your health ordeals are finally improving.

I'm really happy to read that you are doing the Panama Canal trip with us. I'm really looking forward to it, and it will great to meet both of you.

Mark, good to see you posting again. I had a note on my calendar yesterday that it was Mark from Cruisemates birthday. Just didn't know which one of our Marks it was. If it was yours then I'm sending you a belated Happy Birthday wish.

Phyll
