Default Tribute to Those who Serve

Everybody,

Back in the early 1980's when I was standing our nation's watch, a dear friend who has since gone to his eternal reward gave me the following poem that he wrote as a tribute and an expression of gratitude to those who serve. Tomorrow being Veterans' Day, I share it for all those who have served and who now serve. Please feel free to send copies of the entire poem (and only the entire poem) to your loved ones who have served or are now serving.

A Few Good Men
By Peter N. Sorsby

A man to go forth in harm's way,
It's in the orders of the day
Of my platoon and company,
I am willing it should be me.
Anywhere beneath the sun,
I will do what must be done.
I am ready.

Down deep inside a ship of war,
Pandora's box is a single door
To weapons unknown heretofore.
One man must stand before that door,
Alertly watching, constantly.
I am willing it should be me.
I am ready.

A man to go forth in harm's way,
It's in the orders of the day.
"Medic! Medic!" I hear the cry;
Wounds to dress or a man may die
Under fire from the enemy,
I am willing it should be me.
I will do what must be done
Anywhere benneath the sun.
I am ready.

A cry has ome from across the sea;
A cry for help -- for help from me.
O alien land, I'll be that man.
Though snipers fire from rock and tree,
I will go help men to be free.
I will do what must be done
Anywhere benneath the sun.
I am ready.

With fiery chariot speeding high
On wings of morning in the sky,
Less than the speed that missiles fly,
My home field is a ship at sea.
From floating airdrome of the free,
Someone must fly where missiles be.
I will do what must be done,
Fly anywhere benneath the sun.
I am ready.

A single guard, a distant land,
At embassy gate I stand,
A lonely island of the free,
There waves of danger roll on me.
One outpost holds back the sea.
I am willing it should be me.
I am ready.

Someone to go forh in harm's way,
It's in the orders of the day.
One man, exposed, one man I see --
One at risk for the company.
How does one man take risk to die?
You wonder why? Well, so do I!
A wondrosu thing, how can it be?
Is it for home and family?
Is it platoon and company?
This brotherhood is such you see,
I would die for them, they for me;
Do stronger ties bind family?
We will do what must be done,
Every one beneath the sun.
We are ready.

Alone He went forth in harm's way,
The Father's orders to obey.
Went forth for you, went forth for me,
He stood my watch on Calvary.
Lord Jesus, You can understand.
You stood my watch; now here I stand
In harm's way for fellow man.
The yawning grave could not hold Thee,
My Anchor is You stand by me,
Alertly, watching constantly!
Though waves of danger fill the sea,
My anchor is You stand by me.
I am ready.

A man to go forth in harm'sway,
It's in the orders of the day
Of my platoon and company.
I am willing it should be me.
Anywhere beneath the sun,
I will do what must be done.
I am ready.

And let me add my most sincere thanks to all those who have stood watch and who now stand watch for our nation, in whatever capacity!

Norm.

I couldn't get through the whole thing. With everyone's permission, I will cut and paste and read when my love is back on American soil.

God Bless our Vets, and those who will be one day!!!
