Default Linda & Bruce are home

Our Epic adventure had a different meaning this cruise, Bruce and I were disembarked from the ship on Wednesday in St Thomas. Neither one of us had been feeling well, myself going on week 3 of this bloody cold.and Bruce had something similar, but had a bad feeling about the cruise. He would be proven right. We slept, and, hardly ate, up until Weds...stayed in port in St Maarten, and, St Thomas, but, by mid day, it was clear he was in distress.

Let me tell you, if you ever have the pleasure of cruising with Linda Griggs, and the poop hits the fan, this wonderful woman, will be your eyes ears and shoulder to cry on....Blessings on her...xo. Bruce was taken to the infirmary, where they stopped, and, restarted his heart, and, was told he would have to go to the Roy Schneider Hospital....stop thinking jazz hands now!

With 20 minutes to pack our cabin, undies, chargers, and baubles flying, we managed to almost get everything, Waiting for the ambulance, made the ship a tad late, and as soon as the door closed the ship was gone...[poof]

As we drove to the hospital, I said to the driver could you please put the siren on...helllllloooo! So from Weds till today, Bruce got taken care of very well. What he has is too hard to pronounce, and add a bit of pneumonia. I slept in the room in a recliner.Through a quirk of luck, we had purchased a repatriation plan, sort of like concierge medicine. so, from the hospital door, to our door, we flew home, with a nurse and limo's.

We will follow up this week for Bruce, and, I am off to urgent care tomorrow, hoping the Dr, will cannonball some drugs down my throat, and make it all go away...I can barely talk, and Bruce just needs rest..Today has been the longest day I can remember in may years...Tough to go through, an illness far form home and unfamiliar doctors. We feel fortunate, nonetheless.

Our group was mighty and I felt bad I had to leave, but, I know the fun continued, with another cooking demo...the 1st was wonderful...Thanks my Epican Pals...hoping we meet again....

((((((Trip)))))

All I know is to send the hugs. Sounds like you and Bruce have been through hell. Try to rest and get better. I'm sorry the cruise ended the way it did but I'm glad you got such good TLC. I'm so glad you had insurance.

I'm so very sorry Linda...but I'm glad you both got home safe and sound.

I hope the Dr's make you both better quickly, take good care of each other, and rest.

All the best

I am Happy and sad.

Happy we had a very good cruise on the Epic.

Sad because of the physical conditions of our Host Trip and Bruce. Glad you are home and taking care of the Physical condition.

Todd, who was my cabinmate had and attact a 5 AM on Saturday 24th. His condition was very bad. He did not know who he was or where he was. And he scared the H ll our of me. He screamed and hollowed. Nurse came up and left without doing anything. He said he would be alright. And in about 2 hours he was back to normal which is very low.

We had packed and bags were gone. I got him some fruit and he ate some candy to bring his sugar up. We disembarked around 9 am. Paid my duty to customs and we aboarded my car and headed to Ocoee. Got here around 4 pm. Ate and went to bed.

Todd left this morning to get on the plane to TN. Celeste drove him to airport because I needed some lone time.

Going to Church soon and hope all is well for awhile.

Bruce am glad you are safe home. Take care and heal fast. We miss you. Trip Thanks for all you have done to organize the cruise. Thanks for the bag of gifts.

Love every one

My gosh Trip how terrible! I’m sure it’s feels good to be home where you can see your own doctors and start the mending process. Hope you and Bruce feel better real soon!

Wow Trip! You went through it all !! So glad you are back home, and getting care for Bruce and you that is more familiar to you.

I know you are 100% right about Linda Griggs. She handles every tough situation. Just takes over and does what needs doing. She is a living angel!!!

Hope you two are recovering quickly.

Linda,

I'm glad you are both home safe and "somewhat" sound. I hope Bruce continues his recovery and they dump a lot of good stuff down your throat.

I also hope Todd is doing well.

It sounds like it was an "Epic" adventure and I'm glad you had Linda G to give you all her help.

Take care,
Mike

Default Linda and Bruce are both Home

It does, indeed, sound like an Epic cruise. I am sorry you both had to go through that. It's very scarey to be far from home and get sick. I know, because I went through that in Sweden with Keith.

I hope you are both getting plenty of care and get better soon.

Linda, I can't imagine exactly how things were for you and Bruce but I would feel greatful to be at a place like St Thomas. Am glad that you had the coverage that you did to get you home like that.

I hope also that Todd is okay.

Default What can I say ???

I couldn't believe it when I read this thread.

I hope all of you - Linda, Bruce, Ray and Todd are OK and following Drs orders, resting up and taking meds.

I knew a sensible girl like you, Trip, would have insurance but even so - it does not alleviate all the stress.

As RD says concentrate on getting back to full health.

Take care

Annie

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. We both appreciate all you kind thoughts. If there was a good thng in this tale of woe, is, that it happened in the USVI. a day earlier, or 2 days later, we would really have been up the creek.

Bruce's heart rate was up to 177. I could call him marathon man. He was treated by 2 wonderful male nurses, who really bonded with him. Interesting to be in a hospital so far from home. The rooms have no bathrooms, and no hot water. For me, not a patient, I had to take the long scary walk alone in the middle of the night, listening to the Twilight Zone theme going off in my head.

Today, the Pharmacy would not accept the 4 prescriptions we brought home, after a phone call to St. Thomas, and having the good fortune to be able to speak with the subscribing Dr...[btw..she is acatually from D.C., and was in the island for vacation] we got it squared away..don;t ask...I didn't.......

My trip to urgent care had me wakling away with the golden ticket.... antibiotics. These things are huge, and I need to cut them in half, and still am having difficulty. I sure hope the next pill, will make it all go away.

I will say this, having this On Call, repatriation plan, was a stroke of luck. A flash sale on line, with pricing for me of less than, $9.00, and since the fee for the concierge nurse was $9,000.00 you can see what a bucket of luck I fell in. Lots of healing, and blessings are going on at my house now.If I'm not around too much this week, please know I will be back, soon...xo

I'm so glad that you're home and safe. It's always a bit more scarey when you're not! Bucket's of luck aren't too normal, either! I think you've been doing eveything right !

Please keep us posted on how you're both doing,

So glad you're both home relatively safe and sound. Was a eal damper when you left the ship, especially under the circumstances.

Thank God you're both safe and sound!

Good to hear you are both on the mend and you got some much needed meds...

Here is just another good reason to take out travel insurance, you just never know..

Thanks everyone..you all know how to lift one's spirits!

As an aside, in the hospital, from, a Celebrity cruise ship was a woman, who fell, and broke her knee cap. AGE has NOTHING to do with purchasing travel insurance. Bad things can happen to anyone of ANY age.I have been witness to it,and now have become part of it.

Five foo foo drinks, could be the cost of your insurance...and peace of mind.

I feel bad for you and Bruce but I relate to the woman with the busted knee cap. It isn't fun. I broke mine in a split second of just missing a stair. Luckily I was home but it could have just as easily, or easier, happened on a trip.

Take care,
Mike

Glad you are both home and feeling somewhat better. I don't think I will ever travel out of the US without some type of insurance. You and the lady with the broken kneecap are just a few instances. With my and my DH medical histories, it would just not be wise at all to go without!!

Take care.
