Default Dangerous port

An article came across my wall just now, from Travel-Wise, listing the 22 most dangerous cities acrosss the globe. Number 21 is Nassau..have you ever felt unsafe there? I'll be there shortly.. your thoughts?

21. Nassau, Bahamas
While it is a relatively popular cruise destination for tourists, last year, Nassau saw their murder rate increase by 22%. Violent criminal activity may take place in broad daylight and in tourist areas such as beaches, hotels and nightclubs, although most of it occurs south of the downtown area.

We found the vendors to be vey pushy when we stopped in Nassau. You should not venture out alone in that port. Stay with a group and you'll be fine.

I'll take running the gauntlet outside the port in Ocho Rios over Nassau any day. I've done Atlantis, swam with the dolphins, seen the straw market (underwhelming) and did the Jeep tour. All, except swimming with the dolphins, were underwhelming at best. Now it's a ship day if we dock there.

I never felt "unsafe" but it wasn't too great either.

Take care,
Mike

No, never felt unsafe in Nassau. One of our recent cruises took us to Nassau and we did an excursion to Blue Lagoon and it was wonderful.

The only place we have never felt safe was Cartagena Columbia! The people trying to sell you something outnumbered the passengers 5 to 1 and they were very pushy.

The crime statistics are startling. It's been many years since I've ported there, and have always enjoyed shopping, and enjoyed shopping and Atlantis. I'm going to play this one by ear..

Any place where there are soldiers on the perimeter with submachine guns makes me uneasy.
Labadee, Haiti and Caracas (La Guaira) Venezuela spring to mind.
