Egypt may be aways off for some cruisers but wanted to post my 2 pennies on an excursion we just took in Nov. Ship docked in Port Said and we picked it back up in Alexandria the following evening. They must have spent most of our money on the security for the bus convoy (armed police and military) but we were hopeful that visiting such a unique part of the world would be worth it. NOT in our opinion! With the invention of "IMAX" movies, you really have to want to do this to overcome the filth (decomposing, headless horse in a roadside canal)and the aggressive beggars (due to overwhelming poverty in a city that is severely overpopulated).
On a positive note, yes the pyramids are awesome and the schoolchildren seemed genuinely excited to see Americans/Europeans. Would we do it again? Nope, and this post isn't meant to discourage you, just give you an insight that we wish we had prior to our trip. Maybe then we wouldn't have been SO excited and then consequently, let down.
