Default Rott VI - After Boarding - Checking In Carry On

Well starting to get ready, only 14 days till boarding on 5/27 NYC.

This question is directed to all the good CruiseMates that were recently on board the Rotterdam VI.

Could you explain how & where they checked in your carry on luggage after boarding the ship and directing you to the Lido Deck.

The latest Mariner Magazine (Spring Issue 2004) explained the new boarding procedures.

According to the article:

You now have the opportunity to board the ship as early as 11:30AM. Upon boarding at that time, you can check-in your coats & carry-on luggage before being directed to the buffet in the Lido, arrange your Shore Tours, make your Reservations at the Pinnacle Restaurant or investigate the rest of the ship till they announce about 1PM, you may proceed to you assigned rooms.

Since this is a new concept this year, I was just wondering knowing the ship, where the check in area is located on board and where the personal effects are storaged for later pickup.

Not sure if the same procedure is being used on the other ship's also.

Would appreciate you assistance.

Thank you
Ed S.

We just returned from the Rotterdam. Upon boarding we were directed to take the elevator to the Lido deck, and check our carry-on luggage by the Lido pool. We received a claim ticket and were told to procede to the Lido Cafe for lunch. About 1 or 1:30PM they made an announcement that cabins were ready, and we claimed our carry on luggage and went to our cabin. No one escorted us, but If you arrive at a later time they will escort you directly to your cabin.
You may also stay in your cabin at debarkation until your color is called.
It was an easy and painless procedure and very well organized, I thought.

On the Vollendam luggage was placed under cover by the main pool and you are given a receipt for pick up arround 1:00.If you are past passenger and maybe offered to all,you can make reservations in the Pinnacle for half price thr first nite. You will be informed over speaker system when bags may be claimed and you can take yourself or porter will guide you to your room. This is another reason why Holland gets good marks from most cruisers.

I wouldn't want to leave my hand-carried baggage by the pool, especially if it is warm outside. It's not good for film, medications, or wine.
