A big press release was released today. My favorite parts:
RedFrog Pub - An exciting new concept, the RedFrog Pub offers a laid-back Caribbean vibe with island-inspired snacks and drinks, including ThirstyFrog Red, a private-label draught beer brewed especially for Carnival Magic. Located on Promenade Deck 5, the 100-seat indoor/outdoor pub is a convivial place where guests can relax, meet new friends, sip a frozen cocktail, and nosh on Bahamian conch salad, grouper fingers, firecracker Jamaican chicken wings, and other Caribbean favorites. RedFrog Pub will also offer tastings of top-rated rums of the Caribbean and a collection of the region's best beers. With a nod to Carnival Magic's Caribbean itineraries which kick off in November 2011, RedFrog Pub's decor is decidedly British West Indies meets Key West, evoking the warmth and friendliness of a local island watering hole. Nautical-themed interiors with rich wood details, vibrant tile work, portholes, and images of ships at sea, along with foosball and shuffleboard tables and a jukebox, complete the playful pub atmosphere.
Cucina del Capitano ("The Captain's Kitchen") -- An homage to Carnival's rich Italian lineage - all of the line's captains are Italian and many Carnival ships, including Carnival Magic, are built in Italy - Cucina del Capitano is a delicious dinner-time option with made-to-order Italian favorites in comfortable, relaxed surroundings. Here, guests can dine on hand-made pastas, risotto and fresh-from-the-oven Italian specialties - many served family style - complemented by a wine list specializing in Italian vintages. Many of the dishes and recipes were hand-selected by Carnival's captains. Framed archival photographs, many from the captains' personal collections, table arrangements that invite conversation, wood-beam ceilings, and ornate wrought ironwork recreate the ambiance of a cozy Italian home, while warm, attentive service makes diners feel like they're part of the family. Truly an unforgettable dining experience. Dinner carries a nominal fee. During the day, the space is utilized as a casual made-to-order pasta bar with items offered on a complimentary basis.

I like the website, too! Sure does heighten the anticipation of seeing the new ship. I guess the Pub is a Caribbean Pub, so we have conch and Jamaican chicken wings. Wonder what happened to the rest of the chicken? Should be interesting to see if they attempt the jerk seasoning.

Well, I would have liked to have seen the website. I don't have dial-up, but it sure felt like it. I don't have all night to wait for all that stuff to buffer and buffer and buffer.
But heck, it sure sounds like it's neato! Darlene, is your butt booked yet???

Looks like the port of Galveston is preparing. (That's the way we do it in Texas, we get 'r dun. We don't wait for it to arrive and THEN see what is needed.)
GALVESTON, Texas -- The Port of Galveston will undergo nearly $11 million in renovations to help prepare for the 2011 arrival of Carnival Magic, the cruise line's newest and largest vessel. The port board of trustees has awarded a $7.4 million contract to Houston-based Webber LLC to expand waiting areas, add restrooms and move the embarking screening area from the terminal's second floor to the first floor.
The Galveston County Daily News reported Tuesday that the board also approved an agreement with Trelleborg, Sweden,-based FMT to install a new gangway by Aug. 31. The cost limit is $3.5 million. Port director Steve Cernak says a cruise ship the size of the Magic, which displaces 130,000 tons and carries 3,960 passengers, requires a larger gangway.
Departures are expected from Galveston in November 2011.

Woohoo!! I can't wait to see this ship!
I guess we have to come up with a name for our group on this one as well?

Yeah, we have too many, even if they didn't let any other passengers in on it. Unless somebody has an "in" with John and they can do one just for us!

We my have too many people for it. Also they may not want to offer it first sailing, but who knows. Maybe we could be the guinea pigs.

We do have too many ... if everyone wanted to do this. However John has been known to do "favors" when it's requested on his blog thingie ... so maybe someone would consider making the request for our group. Whatcha think Ray worth a shot???
Chef’s Table - $75 FEE (including wine and gratuity)
This unique culinary experience is now available for groups of 12 guests. It includes cocktails and hors d’ouevres as well as a personalized tour of the galley in operation, followed by a multi-course full-service dinner created by our master chefs – all hosted by the ship’s chef de cuisine. The dinner takes place in non-traditional dining venues – such as the galley, library and conference centre -- which will vary by ship. Reservations can be made onboard through the Guest Services desk and the fee is $75 per person (including wine and gratuity.)
The Chef’s Table is already available on Carnival Dream, Liberty, Pride, Ecstasy, Sensation, Imagination, Fascination and Inspiration!

I read elsewhere that sometimes they will have a second Chef's Table if the demand is there. Not sure they would do that on a 6 day, though. One person tried splitting his group up into 2 groups, but never heard back with confirmation. Another woman had to go by herself, because there were already 11 people signed up, so no room for her husband.
Also, in case it matters, you don't get to choose your wine. They serve one red and one white, their choice.

Snooze, I hope it speeds things up a bit. Galveston was one of the slowest boarding experiences we have ever had. From the time we entered the line until we stepped on the ship was 1.5 hours. Poor way to start a vacation, the luggage bet us to the room. Mike

Is there any interest in trying to do a Chef's Table as a group while on
the Magic? I know there have been posts that suggest 12 is the max
but we may have no more than that. If we do maybe John could get
us an exception. In any event the sooner a request is made the
better our chances are.

You never know, maybe not everybody will want to do it. I am definitely in.
