Default Tipping on Princess

Its been awhile since I cruised on Princess and I totally forgot how they handle the tipping. I seem to remember it being automatic and going on your shipboard card??

Anyone? I actually just got my pre-cruise info yesterday and I'm sure this is in there if I read through everything. Been going through the shore excursions first :-)

Yes Donna, they are automatically added to your account. They have envelopes at the Customer Service desk if you wish to give additional. On some Princess ships you can see your account and make reservations for dinner or excursions via the TV. We love that feature. No surprises at the end of the week. Have a great time.

I seem to remember an option-automatic gratuities or pay on your own, and if you opted for automatic it had to be done by the third day of the cruise.

Donna,

You may tip if the seas are extremely rough or if you have too many foo foo drinks.

Your gratuities will be added to your onboard account.

Take care and have a fantastic time in Alaska.

My understanding is that automatic tipping is done automatically at X$ per person per day.

If you want to opt-out of automatic tipping you can do that by going to the purser's desk and do your tips yourself.

We always keep auto-tipping in place and tip extra to those individuals we feel deserve extra tips beyond the auto-tip. We also tell them it is above the auto-tip, when we give them our extra tip & thanks for their service.

Enjoy your Alaska cruise. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

It actually is kind of nice to do the auto tipping, less cash to have to divide up and deliver, this way, its done for me unless I want to add more.

At the moment, trying to decide on shore excursions, got all the info fed-xed to me the other day, so now its real.

They are added to your onboard account or you can tip on your own.
Just check your account.

Have a great cruise. 8)

Princes has raised the daily tipping guidelines ...

"Princess makes it easier for you to reward excellent service by automatically adding a discretionary Hotel and Dining charge of $11 USD for suites and mini-suites and $10.50 USD for all other staterooms per person per day (including children) to your shipboard account on a daily basis."

It is automatic, unless you go to the pursers desk and ask them not to do it.

Have a great time!

On our last 3 Princess Cruises you could NOT view your charges on the TV. You had to go toi the poursers office for a print out.

Go on line and book any that you may be interested in, you can always cancel and Princess does not charge your credit card.

IIRC, you have to cancel 48 hours before the tour or you will be charged.
