We stayed at the Tryp Times square by Windham and it was excellent. The rooms were large for NYC, very modern and trendy, if that is your taste. Beds were very comfortable and the location was great, about two miles from terminal, in the Hells Kitchen área. It was close to ninth avenue where there are many ethnic restaurants with cuisines from all over the world.
Our stay there was the best part of our cruise. We did not love the Carnival Splendor.
We did a blind bid of $103 as a four star Hells Kitchen property on Hotwire
and this hotel was the one that came up with those parameters. The Price in October will probably be a Little higher but I highly recommend this property as well as Hotwire. We were there in January when prices are a bit lower.
There is a new (from the ground up) Hilton Garden Inn on W 54th Street. We stayed there in February and it opened just in time for the Super Bowl. Very nice hotel; of course rooms are not large and price was somewhat discounted so I expect it will be normal pricing now. Just around the corner, on Broadway, is where the Letterman Show is. Times Square is 5 minutes away. If you don't mind walking and your luggage is on wheels you can actually walk to the pier.
