Question Are beds on princess comfortable?

I've read that Princess beds are uncomfortable and to request an egg crate. I also read that they are replacing their mattresses. Are the beds uncomfortable? How do the beds compare to Royal Caribbean?

Princess beds are getting better. We've had some horrific ones in the past. Ordering an egg crate is never a bad idea though.

Occasionally we're had some so-so mattresses but most of them are acceptable.
We've also found that the egg create foam things don't do much to help a bad mattress & have gave up on them. I also don't think they're laundered either which make me think twice about sleeping on one.

To say all mattresses on any cruise line aren't good does an injustice to the entire cruise line. Yes, some mattresses are better than others. But that statement can be made on every cruise line out there. It really depends on when a ship last went through refurbishment and when the mattresses were last replaced. If you get on a ship where the mattresses are due for replacement, then they are obviously going to be less comfortable than if you go on a ship that just had all the mattresses replaced.

Then again, just because a ship goes through refurbishment does not necessarily mean they have replaced the mattresses as a part of the work. We went on an RCCL ship 1 week after it went through a complete major overhaul only to find they did not replace the mattresses and ours was actually concaved. It was ridiculously uncomfortable and even two egg crates on top did not compensate for it.

With that said, we've been on many RCCL cruises and several Princess cruises. I would say that overall they are very comparable. I would definitely not let comments by others about a mattress dictate whether I wanted to go on a particular cruise or not, that's for sure.

As for egg crates being 'laundered', mattresses aren't laundered either and they have exactly the same layers between you and the mattress as they do between you and the egg crate, so I don't even see where that's relevant.

And by the way, not all cruise lines use egg crates. We actually got a memory foam pad on one cruise and that was awesome. Made me want to take along an extra suitcase so I could have my own memory foam pad.

Personally, I much prefer the beds on Holland or Celebrity.
