The Friends of Dorothy & The Friends of Bill W both had meetings listed on the daily itinerary when we sailed the Majesty. I don't belong to either group so I can't give you more info.

Can I be so naive as to as what those groups are?

Friends of Bill W is like Alcohal Anonomus... And as for Dorothy, I'm not sure...

Friends of Dorothy is a meeting and/or get together for gay cruisers. They have had them on the Brilliance and Radiance class ships, however, they're not scheduled on the Voyager Class as they are family oriented ships. Many cruise lines are catering to the gay traveler. On the QM2, you can find small to medium size gay groups travelling onboard. The meeting allows those of the gay persuasion to meet each other and mingle (like a singles group). The idea is that such meetings inspire those who are gay couples or singles to get to meet each other early on in their cruise so they can attend dinners, go dancing or plan excursions together.

On the RCI Brilliance there was a "Friends of Dorothy" dance in the disco late at night... I didn't pay much more attention to the other postings.. As for not having "Friends" on the Voyager ships...give me a break.. I'm not a fan of RCI after my one experience and I think they are very short-sighted.. Except for a few of the high end cruise lines...I doubt any are ONLY family oriented.. Gezz...

"Friends Of Dorothy" is named for Judy Garland's character in The Wizard Of Oz. Because of her popularity especially with gay men, Judy Garland is sometimes affectionately referred to as "the patron saint of gay people."

How is Friends of Bill W like Alcoholics Anonymus? It's not one of those "reparative therapy" groups for gay people, is it?

Friends of Bill W. IS Alcoholics Annoymous, that's just a way of saying it w/out saying it. Bill W. was one of the co-founders of AA

On my recent Splendour cruise we had a japanese lady show up at the AA meeting, she thought she was going to meet Bill W. ((she had no clue who he was but saw it on the daily compass and wanted to do everything listed) It was very funny

I one time asked the purser who Bill W. was...and why should I be his friend. ! I thought that it was a big travel agency or something. !

Even if the Friends of Dorothy meeting is not regularly scheduled, you can always ask the CD or his staff to put it into the Cruise Compass.

I just got off the Mariner and I thought I was the only gay person on the ship. Then about 2 day into the voyage, I saw a gay couple. 3 people out of 3,600. Maybe next time I will try RSVP and feel like the majority.

There was an ad in our local newspaper to meet Kelli O'Donnel (maybe Rosie too?) at a travel event but it was for a cruise different line--they are having a gay cruise event..can check with your TA.
