Default Group pricing question

We're just starting to plan a large family trip on RCCL for Feb, 2007. Anyone know what the "magic number" is for how many staterooms we need to book to get a discount? My dad says he thinks it's maybe 8, but he's not at all sure. We're looking at my family and the inlaws, so possibly 8-10 total.

Also, we'll probably be booking way early. On the off chance that the price goes down, will be pay the price at the time of sailing, or the price that we put down our deposit at? We went Celebrity last time, and the price ended up dropping through the floor due to 9/11-we went from approx. $800/person to $310/person. Wondering if that's standard practice through the industry, or maybe had more to do with them not wanting us to cancel. Anyone know?

Default Re: Group pricing question

The "general rule of thumb" is the equivalent of 1 free "berth" (not including port and tax) with every 15 people paid.

On top of that, for many groups the agents are given a certain # of "points" to be spent on amenities such as shipboard credits, or cocktail parties, or in some cases a price reduction.

Each cruise line policy is different with regard to price drops. RCI will honor discounts if their price drops before sailing... so you do have some rate protection there.
