Default Dress code for kids

Does the same rule apply for kids? I have a 7 yr old boy and 1 1/2 yr old girl. Will I need to bring a suit jacket for my son? Or will dress shirt and tie be fine for formal night?

Also would I be ok to wear dressy capris or dress shorts with heels on casual or smart casual nights?

Your son does not need a suit. What you are suggesting is just fine. Dressy capris are usually allowed but shorts are shorts and they are not allowed in the main dining room during dinner.

In saying that, there seem to be more and more people dressing down these days and I think that's a shame. However, depending on ship etc. they do say no shorts.
Dec. 13 - Windstar sailing yacht. Wonderful!!

Just completed - Celebrity Reflection, Nov. 22 (learning to sail solo) followed by Independence of the Seas Nov. 30.

44 cruises - too many to list however cruiselines are in no particular order:

and some unknown tub

I also agree with the previous posters, a nice pair of pants and a shirt will be fine, he'll still look dressed up and hopefully will not give you a hard time about the clothes. They way kids grow so quickly, just not worth it to purchase a suit, he'll be fine.

Dress code in the dining room has become flexible through the years.

Your 7 year old is just fine with shirt and tie.

Dressy capris will be fine.

I did wear in the dining room dress shorts with a fancy blouse heels and fancy jewelry. No one stopped me and I actually got compliments on the outfit. :-D
It may also depend on the ship. Maybe some ships are more strict then others.
