Default First Time Cruising Newbie Questions

My wife and two teenage kids are taking our first ever cruise in late March on the Allure of the Seas. We have a few questions and need some "professional" advice

1) Drink packages: the wife and i are debating whether or not to get the on board alcohol package. A few of the excursions that we take will include alcohol so we are thinking of the at sea days. If we chose not to get the package, are the per drink prices reasonable?

2) my lovely bride essentially drinks only water and then adult beverages. If we chose to do the "buy them by the drink" while on board, can she just get ice waters? is the water on board decent?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, for the first question, it does really depend on how much alcohol you would drink, the packages aren't cheap, but then again nor are the individual drinks. Also remember that although you will be taking a few 'drink inclusive' tours, you may still want a drink or two during then evening & meal.
So before boarding think about how much you will drink, and what, then when you board, grab a drinks menu & do some quick sums.

As for water, the ships will always try & push bottled water (sparkling and still) however at meal times & at all times in the buffet area you can get iced water. The only time I would suggest you might want bottled is if you have multiple sea days as after a couple the 'tap' water is mostly desalinated water which can taste chemically. Depending on the ship rules, you MAY be allowed to bring sealed bottles of water on board during the voyage, whilst others make you pour it away so check with the desk as to Allure's rule.

Hope you have a great time
