Re: Grammar Lesson: LOOSE vs LOSE

I'm not from the South, but I live here now, and one of the very first things I picked up on was: "I'm fixin' to go"...(to the store/church/bar, etc.) Everyone down here is always "fixin' to" do...

Re: Sail & Sign Card

You have to be really careful about using a bank debit card, because many of them have a daily charge limit. Your card will automatically be billed for the gratuities ($10.00 pp per day), and there...

Re: ATM QUEXSTION

It states in your cruise documents that phone calls (satellite) to or from the ship are $9.75 a minute. Cell phones will usually work in US ports like San Juan or St. Thomas, but it depends on your...

Re: wierd water shoe question

I still have the pair of pink Aqua Socks that I bought at Target about ten years ago, and they still work just fine! For as infrequently as I use them, I really don't care much about how they look. ...

Re: iced tea

I think that most lines use the syrup coffee. I usually frequent the alternative coffee bars for the real thing. The syrup coffee is OK with breakfast, but I gotta tell ya...in the late afternoon,...

Re: weather

Pack for all kinds of weather, and dress in layers. A lightweight waterproof jacket with a hood would be good to bring, too.

Re: What is the earliest flight I can catch?

Oooh...really good deal on those tickets, Bernie! I think you made a great choice, and there's nothing better than getting off of a cruise ship on a weekend and NOT dealing with the chaos at the San...

Re: key west

I thought that one of the best things about Key West was the Mel Fisher Museum, and all the Atocha treasures. I walked over there from the ship, and that's when I first saw the famous chickens! A...

Re: Ochos Rios Danger

Right - always look for the JUTA taxis, as the are the official ones. I like Jamaica, but I can understand why many people don't. When I'm on a cruise, i usually just go to local public beaches. I...

Re: where do you get your knockoff handbags?

I bought my genuinely fake Rolex in San Juan from a guy who had them displayed on a card table. I also bought a couple of fake Dooney & Bourke purses, too. The funny thing is that the watch lasted...

Re: How big of a suitcase can I take?

That's really a great suggestion, tokathy! I never would have thought of putting an open suitcase uncer the bed. I've brought the same old-same old-suitcase for so many years that I pretty much...

Re: Is it better to tip at the start or end of the Cruise?

I do the same thing...tip about $20.00 at the beginning, and full tip at the end. They work a lot harder than I do!!

Re: july hurricanes

Last July, Hurricane Claudette hit the Western Caribbean and caused several ships to change their itineraries and skip some ports of call. Hurricane season officially goes from June through...

Re: non smoking rooms

jennifervail and spike are correct. There are NO non-smoking cabins, and only one non-smoking ship (CCL Paradise until Oct.). Cruise ships are NOT hotel/motel rooms. They change 2-3,000...

Re: Nude sunbathing

The nude beach in St. Martin (French side) is Orient Beach. Only certain parts of the beach allow total nudity, but you'll see plenty of topless anywhere on that beach.

Re: Who has been to Grand Cayman

Toss it out. Sounds like a time share thing to me, and you have no air, transfers, or meals. Never heard of the place.

Re: Carnival is Terrible

Carnival is not "terrible". No cruise line is "terrible". Experiences can be "terrible", and that's what happened here. My worst cruise (if there is such a thing) was on the RCI Viking Serenade...

Re: Re: emergency phone number

There will be a page in your cruise documents about how friends/family can contact you while you're on your cruise. They have to have a credit card when they call the number, because the charge is...

Re: RCI flights

RCI doesn't use any specific "company' to book their air. They contract with several different airlines, to do what they call "bulk ticketing". They will always search for the absolute cheapest way...

Re: Favorite Ship

S.S. Norway - hands down! Eight times on that ship, and only one on the old Seaward (NCL Sea). If she ever comes back to the US, I'll be one of the first to book!

Re: air for cruise

Yes - the closest airport is Newark, although there are shuttle services between JFK and EWR, but you'd have to be rally careful about your arrival and departure times.

Re: Margaritaville in Ocho Rios??!! Help!

You're going to have a real problem doing both with that time schedule. Dunn's River Falls will take up most of your time, and you'll need to be back on your ship no later than 3:00 p.m. - and I'd...

The open-air taxi-vans leaving the beaches in St. Thomas have done the same thing for years...they won't leave until it's full. Same thing with the taxi vans in Grand Cayman. We always pay more for...
