Default Looking for Advise/Info on Windstar

HI everyone....
I'm looking for some advise from your cruisers.

I am soon celebrating my 50th birthday and I will be sailing with my 19 yr old college son.

We are seroiusly thinking about Windstar from St Thomas. The stops look interesteing.

We are not newbie's or novices to cruises, but we have always been on more mainsteam lines, Celebrity, Princess, RCCL, NCL, Disney, Carnival
We have never been on any thing as small as Windstar

I have read alot of the reveiews. (many are older) and it's a mixed bag of input. Some say it was the worst cruise of their lives, others say the best time. Issues of safety seem to be a concern as well as the staff being very rude to American, expensive tours, expensive drinks, food was boring etc.

We are used to stuff happening at night, the shows, the casino being lively, the bars and have some concerns as to if we will enjoy ourselves and fit in. Can a 19 yr old drink mixed drinks, or just beer onboard?

I don't imagine there will be many other college age kids on the ship, even though it's his spring break week (3/11/06)

Shall we go ??? Will it be great??

I'm interested in hearing from others who have been on a Windstar cruise recently and can let me know if I should book this cruise or stick with something more of the mass marketed mega ships

Thanks for your help and honest opinions. Bowling Lady in CT

Bowlinglady: I have sailed twice with Windstar and I am their biggest fan, however I would NOT recommend Windstar to you if you will be travelling with a teen, as he will probably be the ONLY person his age onboard.
Windstar is voted every year as the world's most romantic cruise line, and is geared more towards intimate couples. They offer all watersports, but have no shows or entertainment, the kind you're used to on the big ships.
You could fit their entire casino in your living room, and the pool is about 10' X 10'.
I have absolutely NOTHING negative to say about Windstar, only very fond memories of the 2 best cruises I've ever experienced (out of 23 cruises total) On my 2 Windstar cruises, they took me to my favorite place on the planet - St. Bart's. I'm really looking forward to my next Windstar cruise, but I think Windstar would not be appropriate for your situation.
Like you, I've been on most of the major lines, last month was my first HollandAmerica cruise (westerdam) and I will NEVER cruise with anyone else but HollandAmerica (on big ships, anyway.) They are so much better than the other cruise lines IMHO.
Hope this helps you decide.
