Crown Princess in October out of NY

I am also going on the OCT. 20-27 cruise out of NYC. It will be my finacee, son, and myself. I am excited and nervous because I have never been on a cruise or plane in my life. We have a balcony room and I heard that is beautiful. Please tell me there is nothing to be worried about.

What is your biggest concern? The ship is fantastic and hoping we will have good weather...How old is your son?

My son is 11. I guess my fears stem mostly from my son. He has a medical condition so I have a lot of things that I have to remember to bring and to bring backup of certain things. I have this fear that we get out to sea and then I remember something that I forgot to bring. Or him falling off the edge into the water. I know, I know, I'm paranoid.

Then of course there are those irrational fears of travel in general. I have not traveled in my life any way other than by car so this is all new to me. I guess what I really need to do is just get on the ship and then after I realize I remembered the important stuff and I feel safe, I'll calm down and enjoy myself.

There are excellant medical facilities on board the ship.This will be our third time onboard.Just make a list and check and double check everything.Cruising is very safe,I am sure once you get on board and see how much is going on you will love it. Make sure you go to the Tropical Deck party and the Champagne Waterfall..these are two of the standard activities on the Princess ships.The food is very good and they have some of the best pizza I have experienced on any cruiseline.If you have any more questions I would be happy to help you.

Thank you. That is really good to know about the medical facilites. Makes me feel a lot better. It's scary going into new things when you're not sure of exactly how things are. I will definitelly have to check out the Tropical Deck Party and the Champagne Waterfall. It's sounds wonderful.

Honestly, I'm very excited. I've heard cruises are so much fun and I need a vacation like nobody's business!

Yeah, maybe I will see you there. I am really looking forward to it. I have another question though, I've been looking into different traveler insurance/med insurance to purchase and there are so many. I don't know what to pick. I figure I want one that covers everything, medical, cancellation, all that stuff. Is one company better than the other?

You need to speak to your TA...I am a TA and most of our clients buy from a company called Travelex...since it sounds like your son has a pre-existing medical condition,you would have had to purchase the insurance within 21 days of making your deposit on the cruise. Otherwise,the pre-existing medical condition will not be covered in the event you have to cancel if he becomes ill before the cruise.It is a little complicated.Also,most of these companies do not allow you to cancel for change of mind.Just consult with your TA..that is the best advice I can offer to you.

Thanks. The website my travel agent gave me had the most outrageous quotes. Like $900-$1000! Crazy! But the recommendation you gave me is much more reasonable, only $92 so I will probably go with that. Hopefully even though my son has a pre-existing condition, if he were to catch the flu or need stiches, god forbid, they would still cover that since it is in no way related to his issue. Hopefully anyway.

See, his issue doesn't involve any of his organs, blood, seizures. Nothing like that. So in some ways, medically he is perfect. It's more the fact that his airway is small, so he has a trach to help him breath. So when he gets sick, it's not related because his body and it's functions are all perfect. Hopefully insurance would see it like that if the situation arose. Either way I think it would still be best to get the insurance to be safe.

I cannot wait to go. I'm tired and overworked and need this vacation badly! !

We just cruise on the Crown and had a wonderful time, even in a bad cabin location. We were upgrade to the Cancun Suite - L107. Directly below the treadmills and right on the curve of the bow so we couldn't use the balcony whle cruisiing We made the best of the situation.

Embarkation was so easy at Brooklyn. Walked up to the counter and checked right in. We had a 20 minute wait. We were the 2nd couple on the ship and boarded at 11:30 am. Be sure to use the adult only pool by the Sanctuary. Nice for a quiet afternoon. The best show was the comedian Philadelphia Plowden. The production shows were okay. These singers tried but they just weren't in harmony at all. We liked the performers in the Exployer's Lounge better.

If anyone is interested in a car service we would definately recommend our driver. We had him twice and he has a nice Town Car and was on time and very polite, but cash only. Just click on my name, email me and request his number. It was a good thing we booked before we left because they cab strike was on the day we returned.

Thanks for the info, we just got our cabin number B203 on the Baja deck
which is one of the forward facing balconies, my concern is, is it unuseable when the ship is under way? How about privacy issues?
