Default why?

Why does royal Caribbean have a cerfew??? i was just thinking and it came to me how retarted it is. i can understand the saftey aspect but the thing that gets me is they put about 20 deck patrol/ security officers out to enforce it. why dont they just do what security does and make sure were safe whyle were on deck its mest up!!! i mean if ur gonna put that many security oficers up there mines well let teens go also. its so mest up idk ughhhh it just bothers me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree it is way stupid. But it is what it is, complaining about it isn't gonna change it. We just have to live with it, or don't go on RCCL... but thats the only line I cruise with

I guess it couldn't hurt to try, but I don't think it would work. I guess they are kind of set in there ways. But curfew still sucks.

I've never been on an rccl cruise that the curfew was enforced. I guess I'm just lucky..but I also make friends with the deck patrol people. They are all really nice.

Something else about it, I don't know if it's just what happened to me, or if it's true for everyone. In July 2004, Voyager of the Seas's first year out of New Jersey (I think), I didn't find out that Royal Caribbean even HAD a curfew until after the lifeboat drill, when they were pulling the gangway back so we could depart.

I've found the security guards on there to be a**es. I was sitting with a few friends I had made, in the business services area, which was empty BTW, talking about where were during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The security guard told us we couldn't stay there because we were "causing trouble". He then followed us to the Cafe Promenade, to make sure we weren't "acting up".

Come to think of it, from my experiences on Carnival, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, and Princess, I'm considering being loyal only to Carnival, and boycotting Royal Caribbean and Princess entirely, plus steering my "landlubber" friends away from them and towards Carnival. I haven't decided yet about Celebrity.

royal caribbeans def the best cruise line no offense to anyone..and that sucks i guess if they have a curfew but ive really never had it enforced. i guess if theres like a million kids hanging out somewhere theyll say something.. but as long as you dont look sketchy and **** its fine haha. the only thing i dont like about royal caribbean is that they changed the drinking age -- it used to be that you could have beer at 18 but now it's back to 21 again!
whiiiiiiich reminds me. i'm 17 probbb the worst age to go on a cruise on.. i mean itll still be amazing but i'm the oldest of the "kids" and i can't get into the club ((maybe if i tryyyy))

yeah i mean the curfew sucks, but i love royal caribbean. maybe im just stuck in my ways but since the curfews never been enforeced on any of my cruises (knock on wood) i just love rccl. it is really unreasonable. i think there just trying to make sure as someone else said, avoid wasted teens falling overboard haha.

it was enforced on my empress of the seas cruise. we just hung out in people's cabins past 1am, so it wasn't that big of a deal. i never got caught being out because i was already in a cabin by then. it wasn't enforced on the last night though. the only downer was that some of the parents of the friends i made made them follow the curfew rule and told them to go back by 1am. my parents did that on the first night and said 'you know, there is a curfew on this ship, so make sure you're back by 1am' and me and my sister laughed at them. they weren't being serious anyway because they knew we wouldn't listen.

on my rcl cruise i went in april and the curfew was enforced and then again it wasnt. i walked around with some of my friends like every night and nothing was ever said to us and then other teens were escorted back to their rooms. so i guess it just depends on the teens and what they are doing and so forth and so on. but i think that its stupid. my mom also said to be back by 1am. i never was...haha

i agree thats it totally lame-o. but i think they do it for a couple of reasons. 1)-noise. they must think that having teens back by 1 am that they will get less noise compliants and problems. but usually theres more noise because of this cause everybodys running around trying to get away from security. 2)-safety. like people said, they want to keep the chances of someone gettin drunk and falling off the ship (even though that never really happens) to a minimum.
so all in all, it stinks. but theres really nothing we can do about it. i guess just hope that it doesn't get enforced on your cruise!

Ok, here comes a long winded DJCarolina response.

The Junior Cruiser curfew came into effect throughout the Royal Caribbean Fleet after a complete set of guidelines was published by the cruise line. This set of guidelines is known as the "Guest Conduct Policy" or "Guest Vacation Policy". Its purpose is to provide an equal and safe opportunity for ALL Royal Caribbean Guests to enjoy their cruise vacations to the fullest extent.

So the question is, why? Why did they put a curfew out for teens. Well, we've all seen it and you know what I'm going to be talking about. Unfortunately on the largest cruise ships in the world, it becomes excessively difficult for the ship's staff to manage guest conduct. Teens especially have a tendency to cause problems and moreso when there are fewer guests out and about to call them down. The policy was created in mind with a general teen image. The policy, however, can't be limited to teens causing a problem...that'd just be more of a technicality and more headache for the cruise line. In reference to the safety concern. Zach mentioned that Deck Patrol frequently visits outdoor deck areas at night and he feels that they should be there to protect the teens and not send them to their cabin. I disagree. Deck Patrol has a simple task, they enforce the GCP. They're not lifeguards and theyre not security guards. If they have a problem with you they can only do 2 things, take your seapass and call the real security guards. While I agree, its an inconvenience to have the curfew and the deck patrol, the concept is really in our favor.

Lets also keep in mind that perhaps, the policy isn't to keep us from bothering other older guests, but the other way around. At night, theres very little going on around the ships. On the larger ships, there are lots of dark areas and corners. It would be very easy for a predator to mess with someone and make them disappear quickly. I know some of the ships i've sailed on many times, like the back of my hand and I assure you, there are passageways that make it very easy for someone to disappear. By eliminating teens being out late, in the dark, without other guests, they eliminate lots of the liability and opportunity for foul play to occur.

Overall, what do I think of the curfew? Well, yes it sucks, but its really a concern for safety and an enjoyable experience. I'm finding more and more ships are becoming staffed heavily with deck patrol and the curfew is being heavily enforced. If it happens to you, don't argue and whoever the kid is who said he'd punch a security officer if they tried to enforce the curfew on them, you sound very ignorant to say something like that. It'd not only get you locked up in the brig (yes every ship has one), but could also very well get you banned from the line. Also assault is handled both by the ship and the authorities in the next port of call which could be bad news if your next port is a foreign one.

Theres no chance of getting the curfew lifted, but in reality its not that bad. If your not in one of the teen clubs at 1am, then either your up to no good or its pretty dang late. I like hanging out afterwards too, but there are places you can go without getting bothered. Cafe Promenade is usually pretty safe and so are the movie theaters. I'm not a fan of going in other people's cabins, nor the outside decks that late at night.

Bottom line, your gonna have to deal with it. Every ship has it (yes including Mariner where it's STRICTLY enforced) and will continue to have it. Its better on big ships though because the deck patrol is more spread out throughout the ship.

well it's not like my parents actually tell me to be back by curfew. they were being pretty sarcastic.
but yea we have separate cabins on cruises, so they could really care less about when we go back to the room.

on one of my cruises, we had like sleepovers in these guys cabins every night basically. i was hardlyyy ever in my room!

hahaha that sounds like something i would do!!! Flirting with them to get away with stuff....yeahhhhhhh.

but ive never been on RCCL and i prolly wont before i turn 18 so its not really a problem for me. I can see how the curfew sucks....which is why i never mentioned RCCL as a cruise for us to go on...ill stick to Costa, HAL, and CCL =] maybe some others too hahaha it doesnt really matter to me.
