Default Do your parents understand..

When you talk to them about how you want to go on as many cruises as possible before you're 18. Do your parents just say you can go on more cruises when you're older.

or

Do they understand why you want to go on so many cruises before your 18?

I try and explain to my dad why; but he just doesnt get it!

My parents really don't understand anything I try telling them!
It is so annoying, so I know how you feel!

You're still young. You'll learn that there's more to life than cruising; you can get a cruise experience (the people and whatnot) on land. Yeah, I used to be the type that I had to hit as many cruises as possible before I turn 18, but I realized last summer that there was more, and that turning 18 was probably actually more fun than the teen club and cruising while I was a teen.

Perhaps it was that I outgrew the point of racing to become a platinum member of a cruise line before I turned 18, but I realized that there are a lot of fun things in life that are equally or more fun than the teen club onboard the [insert favorite cruise ship here].

I'm not against cruising, in fact, I still enjoy it greatly, and I know that even once I turn 18 in a week, I know that cruising will be just as fun as a teen, if not even better. Cruising is what you make it; us teens tend to put a barrier on cruising at 18, but I doubt that anything will change for the worst...in fact it may as well change for the better.

I told my parents and they fully understood and we booked a cruise and got back just 8 days before my birthday. So my parents were very understanding and even booked the cruise which I honestly didnt think they would do..

Michael does have a point.

Before I did turn 18, I did explain this to my parents, and they understood. It would have just been too difficult for us to afford more than one cruise per year, plus send me to Catholic high school, a good college, get me a car, go on road trips around the state and Northeast to visit family a few times per year, etc. We're not poor, but we're not rich either.

This is where I agree with Michael, as awesome as cruising is, there are no cruises that go from New York to Washington or Boston or Albany. I do want to travel the world, but many of the places I want to visit, like Las Vegas, you can't cruise to.

I just like to travel, see new places, and keep in the back of my mind "this place is cool, but the city I call home is so much better." Cruising is by far the least stressful and most fun way to travel. There are some times that cruising is not practical though, like for me to visit Australia (I live in New York), or not possible (for me to visit Las Vegas or Madrid)

i understand where your coming from. i'm a bit nervous too as to what cruising will be like when i'm over 18. it might not be exactly the same but i'm hoping that it will still be fun. and besides...i have two years till that happens anyway!

I've cruise twice since I turned 18. When I was 18, the O2 director on the Carnival Victory, on a 5 day cruise to Canada from New York, welcomed me into the O2 club with open arms (literally and figuratively). When I was 19 this past summer, (9 days, Carnival Miracle from New York to the Caribbean), I participated in a lot of the trivia events, and met a girl who was also 19, and hung out with her a lot as well. We went to karaoke almost every night.

On my last cruise on the Jewel of the Seas last spring break it wouldn't of mattered if I was over 18 or under 18. I hung out with a bunch of people that were 18 or older and some people that were younger, we didn't really do many of the teen activities anyway, they weren't that fun. We went to karaoke and hung out in peoples rooms and on the deck... I even got past curfew by hanging with them, cause this one girl would show the guy her card, and then she would give me her card, so it all worked out.

For me its just because it's alot easier to make friends when you're under 18, and acutally know who is close to your age. Also, I have no idea what the 18+ dance club is like. Is it a whole bunch of adults or 18-25 year olds.

I dont know; i'd rather go with a group of friends when I'm 18 than go alone with my mom or something.

I doubt its any harder to make friends once you're 18. I'm 18 and I still make friends regardless of where I am. Its touch to judge something you have only heard about and never tried though. I haven't been on a cruise since I turned, but when I do go, i'll be sure to let everyone know how it went. I think being 18 is amazing; there is no other feeling like it, and it definitely has its perks in just about everything. Think of it as the near ultimate freedom.

I am 20. I was 19 this past summer on my last cruise, which was the 1st cruise that I ever went on that I did not go to the O2. And it was by far the best cruise I've ever been on.

it really is alot more fun to go on a cruise after your 18. I went on a cruise for my highschool graduatioin with a friend and we both turned 18 right before we got on the boat. it was a blast, the 18+ club was so much more fun to me then the teen club. And we made tons of friends. But for me i never really had much fun in the teen club, i always like to lay by the pool and drink or go out dancing, so i guess it just depends on your personality and what you like

Do they understand why you want to go on so many cruises before your 18?

I try and explain to my dad why; but he just doesnt get it!
Haha, well guys... It is hard to say, "MOM/DAD... I really need a cruise... to party, get drunk, and hookup with people!"

And yes, I understand your point... but you know, I agree Michael. Although cruises are fun, there's more to life. 8)

Trust me. When you turn 18-- college is like a cruise... just never ending. (I hope...)

i think Katie's point was that it is important to go on more cruises before you are 18 because you can still go to club 02 etc., not to get drunk the whole time.

and im not sure i agree with the college/cruise analogy, but thats ur opinion, lol.
