Default cruise vs. all inclusive

so my parents want to go away for new years next year cause its really boring where i live... and they cant decide if want to go on a cruise or go to an all inclusive resort somewhere in mexico or the caribbean. Which do you think would be better from a teens perspective?
Also, has anyone been to any good all inclusive resorts?
thanks!

Well, i'll give you a few plus minuses from a general perspective:

Cruises

Advantages
1. All inclusive, no paying for anything except soft drinks, alcohol, the casino, and the upscale restaurants.
2. Visits multiple places. Cruises, unlike all inclusive resorts, are not stationary and provide an opportunity for a "taste" of several different ports
3. Provide multiple forms of entertainment each within a short walk of your cabin.
4. Provide extensive sports and fitness opportunities.
5. Provide a better social aspect as everyone is confined to the ship for the same amount of time. Throughout the week you will meet new people, but you will never say goodbye to anyone until the end of the week.
Disadvantages
1. Some people might find ships restricting; not enough room for them resulting in a claustrophobic feeling
2. Seasickness may apply depending on the places you're sailing to, the weather, and the type of ship
3. Royal Caribbean lists a curfew for guests under 18.
4. Accidents are more prone to happen on cruise ships (people falling overboard)
5. Certain cruise lines require you to dine at a certain time.

All Inclusives

Advantages
1. Freedom of when to arrive and when to leave. Doesn't depend on a "sailing date".
2. Not restricted to a ship, facilities are often larger than those onboard a ship.
3. Similar pricing to cruises
4. More expansive choice of where to stay; many hotels and resorts are available.
5. Good for exploring one place for a lengthened amount of time longer than a day.
6. All drinks, food, and snacks covered at multiple restaurants
Disadvantages
1. You are restricted to one island. No change of scenery
2. People come and go based on their dates; interaction with others will be limited.
3. Quiet, more relaxed environment may not be for people seeking a fun vacation.

Those are what I could come up with. Hope they help.

No problem. I've heard the exploring other options thing before. Usually it ended up in a cruise, although, last summer was a summer-long vacation to Florida, and it was just as good if not better than a cruise, so if they end up picking the all inclusive, make sure you research where you can go on whatever island or place you pick. Nightclubs on land tend to be better than the teen club on a cruise by far, so if you're into the party scene, that would be a great place to start looking to meet people. The resort is bound to have some people as well, but you just have to be more outgoing than on a cruise where everyone talks to each other and so forth.

I've stayed at some all inclusive resorts! I really like them, but cruises are more of my thing. Atlantis in the Bahamas is my favorite that I've been too! Plus there is a dance club for teens..which is good. But I also liked the resort i stayed at in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic it was called the Grand Flamenco. Ohhh and another one I loved was the Starfish Trelawny in Jamaica.

Belize, last time I went in '04 I think it was, was probably one of the poorest islands I had been to at the time. I don't know how much it has changed, but we ended up taking a boat ride to one of it's many islands and there was a beach and food (legit like just caught fish and such) and stuff, so we just relaxed. I forget names though, so you'll have to do a little research if you're interested. Either way, nice choice on the cruise.

i went in 2006 and it was still just as poor. it was really sad to see some of the houses those people live in and gas was $5.00 a gallon back then so i dont even want to think of how much it was when gas was almost $4 here. anyways i also went cave tubing and had a complete blast! you should definitely try it. it was cold but totally worth it

I visited Belize last year... its supposed to have a big coral reef (second largest in the world). I went snorkeling but the weather was really bad (huge waves) and I didnt get to see much. I also walked around a bit. It is definitely not as poor as Roatan, Honduras.

Cozumel is my.... second favorite port haha

i did that exact same cruise for christmas of '07.

i did a snorkle catamaran in belize, then just went to the shops right where you get of the tender. since it was just my mom and i we didn't want to go to far into the island by ourselves. the snorkling was ok, but i didn't see much variety, just a few brown fish & some coral.

in cozumel i swam with the dolphins at Chakkanaab (sp?) which was amazing. there was also a ton of other stuff to do there besides just swim wih the dolphins. you could easily spend a whole day there.

i went with my family to an all-inclusive this winter as opposed to a cruise, which we usually go on during that time of year.

all-inclusives are great for just relaxing and chilling out by the pool with free drinks (the free drinks are probably one of the major advantages over cruises). everything's included, so you don't need to worry about doing anything that will cost extra.

cruises, on the other hand, i find you can relax by the poolside like at resorts, but you are also very active when it comes to different ports of call. cruises get you on a lot of extras, like excursions, photos, drinks, etc, though.

cruises have a different social atmosphere, too. everyone's getting on and off and the same time, whereas people are continuously coming and leaving at resorts. people seem to let loose a lot more on cruises than in resorts, too, which makes for a more fun and party-like atmosphere.

overall, my vote goes to cruises. you get to see a bunch of places as opposed to one, the fact that you're on a ship makes it more exciting, and the cruise culture is definitely a lot more exciting than that of resorts.

Well i have more expierience with all-inclusives then with cruises. I understand you have already chosen a cruise but actually a all-inclusive is lots of fun if you bring the right people. I have gone on 2 in mexico and one in Jamaica. The most recent one was great because i went with my cousin whos the same age. The all-inclusive was huge. It took 45 minutes to walk from one end to the toher. It was made up of 5 different all-inclusives, so they had anything you could possibly ask for. If we wanted to play tennis, they had it. They had lots of entertainement and water sports. We ended up spending the majoirty of our time in the buffets, but we had a great week. I think that depending on the all-inclusive considering everything they have is included it may beat some cruises.

i know you can list the pros/cons for both, but for some reason a cruise will just always seem twice as awesome to me, even if there is more to do at an all inclusive resort.

thats just my 2 cents......

hmmm....personally i'd pick the cruise. at least for me, i'd find it easier to meet people in the cruise atmosphere....but thats just me.
