Default Oasis of the Seas makes me mad. haha

As much as I love Carnival...I would LOVE to try a Royal Caribbean cruise.
And after coming across www.oasisoftheseas.com, I have come to terms that SHIP IS TOO DARN BIG!

Yeah, there's a lot to do and blah,blah.blah. But the thing looks like a giant mall that you sleep in! haha. And I would hope that this would be the last 'biggest cruise ship in the world', because anything bigger than that would be CRAZY! I can't even fathom being on a cruise with that many people! I would need to be on it for like 2 weeks to get everything in! Then, think about the people on other ships. 5,400 people will get off that ship alone plus the thousands of other people getting off ships = One crowded island vacation!

Sure, I would want to do it, but dang!!! That concept is nice. Me personally wouldn't want to come on a cruise that looks like my neighborhood park though. Kinda takes away from the aspect of cruising.

What do you think???

Thats what I think too way too big. You are with like 5,400 - 6,400 other people.

I don't think this will be the biggest ship. I think Royal Caribbean will keep going bigger and bigger.

I just looked at it. It looks AMAZING but like you guys said TOO BIG! I did not think size would deter me from a ship, but after watching the 10 minute video I realized that sometimes a good thing can go too far. There are so many cool attractions but now it seems like another Disney World theme park overcrowded and stuffed with too many attractions.

Here's my thoughts on Oasis; from both a cruiser's and business standpoint.

Business-wise Oasis is a very irresponsible decision, but no one could have guessed that the market would head south in such a short time. My major question in terms of business lies not with how comfortable people are going to be onboard, that's a different issue I'll address a little further on, but with where Royal Caribbean expects to find 5400 people willing to spend upwards of $3,000 on a cruise. To date, Royal Caribbean has been trading bookings for higher prices, but will they be able to continue to follow this business plan on a large scale model such as Oasis or Allure? It'll be tough if the market doesn't budge.

Someone else suggested Royal Caribbean would keep building bigger, but the issue comes down to if they are trading bookings for higher prices, will they be able to have enough equity left in their ships to finance anything larger? Because that is essentially what all the cruise lines do when they want to tackle a new order; they finance new ships with a combination of equity from current ships as well as liquid assets and cash.

Switching gears to a cruiser's point of view, I honestly think that some people will enjoy the new ship; it's the equivalent of going to New York City, only you're taking the city with you to many different places (kind of confusing, but I hope that makes sense as an analogy). Personally, I love a crowd, but I see many many obstacles in having that many people. Primarily, how does one go about disembarking and reembarking 5400+ people and supplies for those people all within a span of 10 hours? Secondly, will Royal Caribbean's idea of doubling up everything (Rock Wall, Pools, Etc...) be enough to handle the added load? Will they be able to turn tables in the dining rooms fast enough to handle the massive load? All things to ponder; but, for the moment, I remain curious. I would not be the first aboard, that's for sure, but I will probably, at some time or other find myself onboard.

Lets hope RC doesn't go any bigger. I mean, how much bigger can they go?!? (RCI...please don't answer that! lol)

Micheal- I see what you mean. I looked up the prices for the ship and saw 889 and I thought :"Whoa! That's pretty good!" haha. It was for FOUR days to their private island! That's not even enough time...all other bookings start at like 2,100 for an inside room! And I got your analogy. ha ha. It makes sense, but I would miss the hot, wood planks at the pool decks and simple stuff like that. That reminds me I'm on a cruise and are the things I miss most when I get home.

It's still an if-y ship to me.

The bigger the ship the better I think. You can always opt for a smaller one if you don't like the big'uns.

You're right. But if the next ship they build is made for a 100000 people and I'm on a smaller ship with like, 2000 people and those two ships are in port....it's going to be all those people on the island.

I go for the ports more than the ship really. The ship is just a fun journey.

Did you mean 10000 people instead of 100000?

I am really interested to see what people think of Oasis. I personally can't wait to have a chance to sail on it but thats just my opinion.

No...I meant the first number. lol.
RCI would be the people to try it to fit that many people on a boat.

And speaking of Titanic...
I would hate to do a muster drill on that thing!

oh okay. i agree. i think that if any cruise line tried to fit 100000 people on a ship that it would be royal caribbean

Well to fit that many people they would have to make a huge ship. I think the bigger the ship, the more things that they have to do, more fun.
I hate small ships. I rather spend more time exploring the ship, so 100000 people on a ship sounds fine to me. As long as the ship isnt overstuffed. Thats a completely different story.

Gotta try it, but - it would very much pis s me off to see someone on the first day, and then never again, and this could be an easy problem

Actually that's true. Im looking at it as if i am only taking a 5 day cruise. The cruise i am going in in 2 weeks is only 5 days. I heard that most likely i wont meet anyone on a 5 day. Anyway i think that as long as you meet someone you are set for a huge ship.

That seems to be a common misconception; from experience, definitely not true. You are as likely to meet someone on a 5 day cruise as you are on a 14 day cruise; how well you get to know the person depends on how much time you spend with them and whether you keep in touch afterwards, but overall, the likelihood of meeting people doesn't change between a 5 and 7 day cruise.

Thats good to hear. Considering i may only get one cruise this year i hope i can make the most of it. Not being able to meet someone due to the duration of the cruise would really suck.

Yeah...you'll meet someone.
I always do.
And I think it's kinda easier to meet someone on a shorter cruise because everyone has the kinda mindset to be nice to everyone because it's all gonna end soon. lol
On some longer cruises...most people clique up by at least the 3rd day and makes it kinda weird.

Some of the best people I've ever meet were on 5 day cruises.

: )

Yeah its true about the longer cruises and they way ppl tend to group up. When I went on an 11 nighter in 07 that exact same thing happened, it was so funny. The group of kids staying in the penthouse suite tried to bother us and stuff but there were so many funny things happening, and drama between everyone lol.

I'm going on a 5 day too! I really want to meet some people and chill, but I'm hanging out with my Dad during the day so I know I'm not going to be close with everyone, but hopefully will still be able to have fun at Club O2 in the evenings.

See my parents let me out on my own now which can be quite fun in itself. The only time I might spend with them is dinnertimes and a random stop here or there throughout the cruise.

Considering last time i went on a cruise i had to report in to them every 3 or 4 hours, i am wondering if i will bump into them from time to time on the ship. I was thinking that the ship cant be that big so i am going to have to bump in to them pretty often.

My last 3 cruises were all 5 days.. I met some amazing people on each of them and still keep in touch with quite a few of them to this day. Participate in the activities the first couple of days and you will be set. =) I hope everyone has a great cruise and meets a ton of teens and make alot of friends =)

Yeah that's what I usually do. I typically only see my parents while in port and for dinner, but this cruise its just me and my dad going to celebrate my bday/graduation/spring break so we are just gonna party all day and then I can go mingle in the Club in the evenings while he has fun at the casino (I would rather meet people & listen to music than dance lol)
