Windstar Cruises' New Dining Guide

Windstar partners with SAVEUR for insider tips and announces an eight-day cruise giveaway!
Plan on doing a little less pre-cruise homework if sailing Windstar. At least, when it comes to finding intriguing local restaurants and cafes ashore. Most foodies love dining on authentic local cuisine in ports, but rarely know where to go. To answer that question, Windstar has launched Windstar Local Dining Tips Curated by SAVEUR. SAVEUR is a smaller, well-established culinary magazine with a strong web site ( The company has partnered with Windstar Cruises before, with a culinary cruise, for instance.
The guide features more than 20 destinations worldwide, including insider advice on finding the best restaurants, vibrant local markets, culinary shops and tucked-away watering holes.
To celebrate the guide launch, Windstar Cruises is giving away a Classic Italy & Dalmation Coast eight-day cruise for two. It’s easy to enter; simply provide an insider international destination tip on Windstar’s Facebook page at (Don’t worry if your tip isn’t genius; the winner will be randomly selected, according to the cruise line’s web site.)
So what type of places made this guide? You can view all the suggestions at Windstar Cruises’ blog: The guide is divided into three regions; Asia, Mediterranean and Northern Europe. Dubai is grouped under Asia; one of six featured in this category. The Mediterranean region listing is more diverse, with some 13 ports showcased.
I clicked on Portofino, Italy and discovered very little: What to eat (focaccia and pesto Geovese), a recipe to make at home, and a chic aperitif hotspot. Ho Chi Minh City offered about the same; one place for good country cooking and an artsy café for Vietnamese-style coffee.
Most ports feature but two or three tips. I’m guessing with this social media campaign, many more will be added soon, transforming the guide into another great tool for culinary explorations ashore. Meanwhile, peruse the suggestions and enter the contest, because a free voyage on a terrific cruise line is a pretty wonderful thing to win.
