Norwegian Breakaway

Discover Norwegian Breakaway, the largest, most luxurious ship to ever call the Big Apple home.

Norwegian Breakaway - New York's Ship

There is only one New York City and it's a destination that visitors flock to in order to experience the unparalleled energy that radiates from every one of its diverse neighborhoods. That's why Brooklyn born and bred Kevin Sheehan, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, was inspired to design the line's newest ship, Norwegian Breakaway, as a ship that will bring the best of NYC to sea when she sails from her New York City homeport year-round. Norwegian Breakaway will debut in her new New York City Home on May 8th where the ship will be christened by New York City Icons, the Rockettes in Manhattan's New York Passenger Terminal.

Norwegian Breakaway's signature hull is adorned with a painting by renowned New York Pop Artist, Peter Max, depicting the New York's famous skyline, the Statue of Liberty and a big red sun and the smaller planets. The meaning is obvious; New York City is the center of the universe.

To further Norwegian Breakaway's ties to New York, Norwegian Cruise Line is the "Official Cruise Line" of the Rockettes, Radio City Music Hall at Rockefeller Center and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. And on board, guests will be able to experience the best of NYC at Sea when they are captivated by the three Broadway shows, including Rock of Ages, Burn the Floor and Cirque Dreams and Dinner; dine in one of 28 delicious dining venues - including Ocean Blue by iron Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian and cakes by the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro, in Carlos Bakery, or take a stroll through 678 Ocean Place or along the boardwalk-inspired Waterfront, which gives guests a unique connection to the ocean.

Norwegian Breakaway will sail year round from New York City starting May 12, 2013. During the summer it will sail a series of seven day cruises to Bermuda followed by seven-day cruises to the Bahamas and Florida, with a few special cruises scheduled to the Southern Caribbean.

Now it is Your Turn

Now it is your turn to experience the ship that brings the best of NYC to sea. There are other cruise ships that sail through New York Harbor, but only Norwegian has designed a ship that epitomizes and harnesses the energy of the city it sails from, and is truly "New York's Ship."

Dining, Manhattan Style

The New York dining experience comes alive with Norwegian Breakaway as the first cruise ship with an extensive indoor/outdoor promenade deck naturally called "The Waterfront." Dine al fresco while taking in the sights, sounds and smells of open ocean air.

Along The Waterfront, guests can choose from a variety of incredible dining options, including Ocean Blue by Iron Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian featuring refined seafood, a stellar wine list and a variety of Zakarian's signature cocktails. Zakarian will also oversee "The Raw Bar," for what he calls his perfect meal - oysters and a glass of wine.

Close by is Carlo's Bakeshop, by Master Baker Buddy Valastro, star of the popular TLC television series "Cake Boss" and "Next Great Baker." This bakery is an extension of the original in Hoboken, across the Hudson from New York's waterfront and Frank Sinatra's home town. On select sailings guests can learn some of Buddy's best secrets for cupcake decoration.

Also on The Waterfront you will find the Dolce Gelato Bar, Cagney's Steakhouse and La Cucina Italian restaurant.

Walk inside and you will descend upon 678 Ocean Place, an open space spanning three decks, where several restaurants converge with all the energy of the city. Between 678 and the Waterfront there are 28 dining options including signature Norwegian Cruise Line favorites like Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria, Teppanyaki and Shanghai's Noodle Bar, plus the main dining rooms, Taste, Savor and the Manhattan Room.

Bars and Lounges

There are also 22 bars and lounges on board. Along the Waterfront you'll find Shaker's Martini bar and Maltings Beer and Whiskey Bar. 678 Ocean Place is the home to the New York City inspired Svedka/Inniskillin Ice Bar, featuring New York City Icons made of ice, and even all of the fixtures are made of ice - right down to the drinking glasses; parkas are provided. Next up is the traditional Irish Pub and sports bar, O'Sheehan's, already a huge hit on Norwegian Epic, for draft ale by the pint and complimentary pub food to order 24 hours a day. Don't forget two lanes of bowling. Nearby is Bliss Ultra Lounge, the perfect destination for dancing the night away, or at least until the party moves under the stars to Spice H20; which features an 1980s themed real fireworks show once per cruise.

Broadway Entertainment

New York is also world famous for entertainment and Norwegian Breakaway will feature an array of incredible entertainment, including three Broadway shows!

Headlining in the Breakaway Theater is the Tony Award nominated Broadway hit musical "Rock of Ages, one of the longest running shows in Broadway history and Broadway's best party. It's the classic rock love story of the decade and features such feel-good, sing-out-loud songs such as "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "I Wanna Know What Love Is," "Here I Go Again," "Don't Stop Believin'," and more. The Broadway show is now also Hollywood's biggest party as the film of the musical by New Line Cinema was released on June 15, 2012.

Dance fans will love watching "Burn the Floor," which is truly "ballroom dancing reinvented." The show has professional dancers doing modern variations of Waltz, Cha Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Mambo, Tango, Swing, Jive, Lindy Hop, Viennese Waltz, Pasa Doble and more. They present six shows per cruise in the Manhattan Dining Room, including special daytime presentations.

Following the huge success of the revolutionary Cirque Dreams and Dinner on Norwegian Epic, famed producer/director Neil Goldberg will present an adaptation of the Broadway show Cirque Dreams jungle Fantasy featuring the best of both critically acclaimed productions. The new show will be entitled CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER - JUNGLE FANTASY and will perform in the ship's intimate Spiegel Tent.

Norwegian favorites like "Howl at the Moon," and "The Second City" are also on board, along with another favorite from Norwegian Epic, Fat Cats Jazz and Blues Bar, featuring New York's own Slam Allen.

Daytime Fun for All Ages

Adults will love the Water Park on Deck 17, including the fastest water slide at sea, almost as much as the kids. There are five separate water slides spanning three decks with twists, turns and a plunge, plus two swimming pools and four hot tubs. For the kids alone there is the Kids Aqua Park with squirting Nickelodeon® figures and right-sized pools and slides.

Splash Academy is (surprise) not about water, but it is the place for kids aged three to twelve. Featuring more Nickelodeon characters, they can dance on the interactive light-up dance floor; clown around at circus school; play Wii™ and PlayStation 3® video games and watch movies in the state-of-the-art cinema. There are also crafts, pirate parades and more.

Teenagers, 13 to 17, get Entourage, their own private enclave with disco-style dance floor and DJ, light and sound effects, video games, movies and their own diversions.

Solo travelers get special activities of their own exclusive to Norwegian Epic and Norwegian Breakaway. Studio Staterooms, designed for single travelers with no singles supplement, converge on a private access Studio Lounge for organized meals and shore tours just for singles. It's a guaranteed way to cruise solo and know you can make new friends.

New York's Ship

It's easy to see that Norwegian Breakaway is unlike any other cruise ship - even for the already innovative Norwegian Cruise Line. The ship takes the line's signature Freestyle Cruising® concept to the next level.

Not to mention that guests sailing on Norwegian Breakaway will truly have a New York City experience at sea, through a variety of NYC inspired elements such as two "real" Rockettes onboard the first cruise of every month, Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian, Carlo's Bake Shop, Sabrettes Hot Dogs served along the Waterfront, three Broadway shows, and so much more. If you are like me, you will have tears in your eyes as your cruise enters New York Harbor one last time; Coney Island, the Verrazano Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Battery Park and the breath-taking views of New York City as you sail back to the Manhattan Cruise Passenger Terminal.
