Meet Cattleya, a lovely little riverboat from Rainforest Cruises

Got a hankering to explore the Amazon in style, but want the adventure without a crowd?  Check out the soon-to-debut Cattleya, a floating architectural gem from Rainforest Cruises.  It has but four suites.  That’s right, just eight guests and a crew to pamper, beginning June 2014.

The boat may be tiny but it’s big on luxury.  Cattleya is all-suite and each accommodation offers a king-size bed with fine linens, en-suite baths with plush robes, mini-bars and air-conditioning – the latter a must in the sultry Amazonian climate.  Fine dining is a foodie plus; the chef serves freshly prepared gourmet dishes made from exotic local ingredients in a stunning dining room designed with polished wood floors and ceiling, and crisp linens.  (Meals and house wines are included in the cruise cost.)

The four and five-day sails visit the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve in the remote Loreto region of the Peruvian Amazon.  It’s the largest protected wetland reserve in the world and one of the areas of highest bio-diversity.  The Cattleya’s small engine allows the boat to quietly navigate narrow tributaries and channels of the Amazon, increasing your chance to spot illusive wildlife.  And if you see a pink dolphin in the water, it’s not due to the second glass of wine – these stunning river dolphins are fairly common sightings.

Experienced bilingual guides escort guests through the jungle, providing insight into the wonders of the region.  Seeing indigenous tribes, taking part in a shamanic ceremony and visiting a treetop canopy walkway add to the goose-bump thrills of this remarkable - and nearly private - journey.

One more thing:  The riverboat offers an opportunity to impress guests for the next dinner party back home.  Take an onboard cooking class with the chef and learn how to make typical Amazonian dishes with regional ingredients.  It’s included in the cruise cost – another perk of this experiential new cruise.  Bookings made before July 1, 2014 are subject to special discounts on all 2014 sails.   (
