Today Norwegian outlines the first Breakaway-plus vessel’s attributes
Norwegian Cruise Line is already building the next generation of its ships, which started as being called “Breakaway-plus” vessels. The ships are designed very much like the current Breakaway and getaway, except that they have an additional deck of staterooms, making them about 19,000 gross tons larger to come in at 163,000-gt. With 4,200 passenger berths (and beds for many third and fourth additional passengers in staterooms as well)
The two vessels have already been named, the first being Norwegian escape which will debut in the autumn of 2015. They are under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
Rich Mix of Accommodations
There will be 1,168 Balcony Staterooms that include two lower beds that convert to a queen-size bed as well as bedding capable of accommodating up to two additional guests. Among these balcony staterooms are 172 Family Balconies that are ideal for guests traveling with children, all conveniently located near the children’s facilities. Some of these are connecting staterooms.
There are 114 Oceanview staterooms that feature large picture windows and two convertible beds that convert to a queen-size bed. Of the 114 Oceanview staterooms, there are 48 Family Oceanview Staterooms that can accommodate up to five guests.
Finally, there are 407 inside staterooms offering the same two lower beds that convert to a queen-size bed. Some Inside Staterooms have up to two additional Pullman beds and connecting Inside Staterooms are also available. This comfortable stateroom option is located on various decks throughout the ship and some are adjacent to the children’s facilities.
The ship’s 308 Mini-Suites offer amazing views and a little more room than the standard Balcony Staterooms. The bed two lower beds in these staterooms will convert to a king-size bed. There will also be bedding to accommodate up to two additional guests.
40 of these are Family Mini-Suites that are perfect for guests traveling with children. They feature a king sized bed, a bathtub, bedding to accommodate up to two additional guests and are conveniently located near Splash Academy, the ship’s complimentary kids’ facilities. For those who like to indulge themselves, Norwegian Escape features 20 Spa Mini-Suites with tranquil spa décor and waterfall showers, offering exclusive access to the ship’s Spa Thermal Suite and Fitness Center.
There are a total of 47 wheelchair accessible staterooms in a variety of categories, including suites; all feature lowered wash basins; collapsible shower stools mounted on shower walls; all toilets feature collapsible arm guards.
The Haven by Norwegian
The two-story Haven by Norwegian on Decks 17 and 18, which started upon Norwegian Epic and is also found on the Breakaway and Getaway, is a completely separate enclave of premium suite staterooms with key-card only access to their own private restaurant with outdoor terrace, a cocktail lounge, and an enhanced courtyard area with retractable roof that features a pool, two whirlpools, sauna, spa treatment rooms and a sundeck exclusively for Haven guests.
Norwegian Escape will offer 95 “spectacular, ultra-luxurious” Haven suite accommodation options including:

- The Haven Owner’s Suite
- The Haven Two-Bedroom Family Villa
- The Haven Courtyard Penthouse
- The Haven Deluxe Spa Suite
The suites will feature pillow-top mattresses and fine linens from The Bliss Collection by Norwegian™. The Haven’s exclusive benefits include priority embarkation and disembarkation; distinctive platinum keycard; the personal service of a butler and concierge, in-suite espresso/cappuccino machines; gourmet treats delivered each evening; along with plush bathrobes, slippers, oversized towels; and much more.
The four Haven Deluxe Owner’s Suite are the ship’s most luxurious, well-appointed and spacious accommodations at more than 1,300 square feet with living room, dining area, wet bar, guest bedroom with bathroom and two spacious balconies. There are floor-to-ceiling windows and an enormous marble-finished master bathroom with two modern vanity sinks and a tub with amazing outdoor views.
There are also four Owner’s Suites at are 572 square feet, which sleep up to four guests and feature a separate bedroom, living/dining area, spacious balcony and one and a half bathrooms.
There are 25 Two-Bedroom 540 square foot Family Villas that sleep up to six guests, offering a premium space for an entire family with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. These beautiful suites offer floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies. In all, this private enclave is of modern, luxurious bliss. The large master bathroom includes a luxury shower, two modern vanity sinks and an oversized tub.
The Haven Courtyard Penthouses offer an elevated cruise experience and the guest’s choice of views featuring 22 Penthouses in the Haven, plus 14 Aft-Facing and 12 Forward-Facing Penthouses located on additional decks throughout the ship. Each accommodates between three and four guests and offers not only the extra space guests need, but also a luxurious king-size bed and dining and sitting areas.
Norwegian Escape also offers 14 Haven Spa Suites that can sleep up to three guests as tranquil retreats of modern luxury featuring soothing colors and clean lines to imbue a relaxing, spa-like ambience. They feature a king-size bed, in-room hot tub, oversized waterfall shower with multiple body spray jets and complimentary access to the adjacent Spa Thermal Suite and Fitness Center.
