Carnival Cruise Lines began testing a new all-inclusive beverage program aboard the Carnival Victory starting with the ship's Aug. 5 departure.
>
> Under the "My Awesome Bar Program," guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer, and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails, throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. All wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced $10 and lower are available within the program. Full bottles of wine and champagne, as well as wines by the glass, beers and individual cocktails priced above $10, are available at a 25 percent discount.
>
> Guests can sign up for the "My Awesome Bar Program" at Carnival Victory's atrium and casino bars, as well as a bar within the main pool area. Each guest aged 21 years and over in the same stateroom must purchase the beverage package. Guests must be 21 years or older to consume alcohol on Carnival ships.
>
> The cost for program is $42.95 per person per day, plus a 15 percent gratuity.

I do think there are possibly a large number of people who ring up bar tabs close to $1000 on a seven day cruise. Especially considering sodas, non alchoholic drinks, and wine by the glass are included in the package.
The Blog post I wrote for tomorrow deals with the topic of Carnival's beverage package announcement, though from a bit of a different angle.
Years ago, on on of our Carnival cruises, there were two guys in the pool, bragging about how high their bar tabs were. One guy said, his was up to $1200.00!! Yikes...that's a cruise fare right there.

The last time I dida 7 day cruise I purchased the 4 drink coupons. I brought 2 of them home with me. I am just not much of a drinker so I do not think I would be purchasing this package.
I see trouble brewing for a couple where one drinks and the other does not.

You would have to drink more than six "well" drinks per day in order to make this package worth it.
There have been days when I have consumed that many drinks in one day but those days are long gone.
On a Sea Day my wife may consume a total of four or five drinks and I might have one or two. On a port day we'd be lucky to consume three between the two of us.
The final answer is: No. It isn't worth it for us. I can see where it would be a value for some folks but I do believe the sticker shock of the pricing will keep most cruisers and "party hardy" types from purchasing this package and live with the sticker shock at the end of the cruise.
Take care,
Mike

My bar tab is usually less than $50 for an entire 7 day cruise....much less $150 a day....

sorry, not worth it to me. Just wondering..... do you think this kind of package would encourage more drinking??? might that have an effect on behavior?? $$$
No, it wouldn't be worth it to us. We might drink enough in one day to cover the charge, but then we'd feel "required" to drink enough each day if we'd already paid !
Not going to happen here !

At 1st I thought it would probably be worth it because we usually will have at least 3 or 4 Bloody Mary's in the morning and beers at lunch and wine in the evening.
But I usually make it to 1500 points and get the "On Us" card in the casino by the 3rd day, so all of my drinks when the casino is open are free anyway.
Wouldn't work for us because of the limitations (15 drinks per day). Counting sodas and all of that, it is easy to reach 15 drinks a day on a caribbean cruise. Also hear they count midnight to midnight, so if we go out the night before a sea day and drink past midnight and then hang out by the pool that day, then dinner, then go out after dinner. It would be easy to reach that 15. If it were for an average of 15 a day, that would be fine because of port days when we are not hanging out by the pool. Guess I keep doing the soda card and rum-runners to supplement our bar tab.
My bar tab is usually around $500 for a 7 day cruise so this would work for me. Would be nice to pay up front and know exactly how much our sail and sign card would be.

If 15 is the maximum per day its a little misleading. Unlimited is not the term they should be using. I am sure its imposed to avoid over indulgence but I think its mainly to keep people from sharing. I think its a bad program especially if the 15 includes soda, water etc...

They were offering the package on the Spirit cruise I just got off of, there were long, long lines waiting to sign up for it and it was a 12 day cruise.
