Dont let the devil stand on your shoulder, its an evil practice, gambling.
Why because it is all lies..not only to the individual, but to those around them. Give it up, you never win apart from the short buzz you get at the time, then reality kicks in everytime , usually "the next day"as to what you have done with your families money. Okay you live with it.
The only time I ever walk into a casino is on a cruise. I consider it just another form of shipboard entertainment. The only game I play is blackjack, since the house edge on this game is very small, and the cost over the long run is low.
On my HAL cruises, BJ was dealt from an eight deck shoe, double down on any two cards, split pairs three times(except aces), double after splitting, and dealer stands on all 17's. With these rules, the house edge is minuscule 0.47% if you play correctly. Over the long run you get a lot of play time for low cost. Of course, bad play will significantly increase the house edge.

Dont stop there, continue with the sermon and tell us about the evils of fire water and how Noahs ark saved every living creature two by two.
Look if you have a moral issue with gambling fine.....dont gamble. Dont come to the gambling section of a bullitin board where people come to exchange thoughts and throw some kind of guilt trip on them.
Sheesh

Somethings in life are Adult Privileges and Resposibilities. Gambling is one of them ... so are drinking, smoking and driving. It is up to each adult to be responsible for such activities.
I enjoy gambling, but I do it sensibly and responsibly. There is no more evil in this than in any other human activity, because done to excess anything can be EVIL.
Now that I have that off my chest -- enjoy your cruise and any activity you choose to do.
Manuel

I agree with all the comments to the original Post. On a cruise my two favorite activites (other than eating) are dancing and playing BJ. And I will not play BJ if the rules are crappy or the casinos have those hidious Continuous Shuffling Machines. Last winter I took a 22 day cruise to Antarctica on Princess and didn't gamble at all becuase the BJ tables had those machines. (Yes, I try to card count)
Best ships to play BJ and gamble in general is NCL, they also have comps. Cheers......Jim H.

DraedLock,
Don't let this poster get to you. He sometimes posts stuff just to get us all going. I happen to be one of his "fans", as the resulting discussions can be very interesting, but other times, it's over the top.

Last time I checked it was me who worked and I'm not spending my "family's" money, I'm spending my money. If you have a problem with control, don't gamble. Get help. Budgeting a certain amount of money for entertainment is the way to go and that entertainment can be gambling or just plain cruising. Its all money spent to have fun and enjoy life.

I would like to address the original poster.. As a born again christian this is a personal choice there is nothing in the Bible that says to NOT gamble or that it is a sin. The only thing the Bible mentions is that Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple, that being said I tried to find a reference to gambling because my husband wanted to know the answer to that question and to my surprise there wasn't any reference for gambling in the concordence. I was watching Jerry Falewell one time and he addressed the issue. His exact words were "Even though it isn't in the Bible I don't know why people would want to waste their money". I am a christian that enjoys playing slots and going to the casino. I only spend what I set as a limit and then I stop. This is really a personal choice and if you feel its a sin then you shouldn't as for me I don't feel that way so I do gamble.
Have a flutter and no problem, but for a lot of folks it goes beyond that, and sorry thats a sad reality for some folks and their familys. And because its not at home and your on a vacation is no excuse or reason.
If its in you, you will do it and use all the excuses to go with it, when you lose
I know ahead of time how much I am willing to lose. I will only take $25 to play. After thats gone, I am done. I love casinos! I have only won a few times but I am sure not enough to cover my losses, but again, I limit my losses. On my only cruise, it was 4 days long, I spent $75 in the casino.
I have been on River Cruise Casino boats and after spending my set amount I will go somewhere to sit until the boat returns to dock. I dont take CC's, debit cards or checks. Nothing that will allow me to access more money. I have gambled in Germany, Oklahoma, the Bahama's, on the Fanstasy and on the gambling boats in IL.
My reasoning is I can walk into Walmart and spend money and dont even know what I bought a day later. This way I am having fun and amusing myself!
You might want to thank me, as I help with many others, keep your cruise price down by my donation to the cause. But don't worry I have budgeted for it as well as the booze, spa treatments, excursions as well. It is a holiday right. PS forget the jewerly bill.
ok. here's my little formula. i love to play the video poker machines. so, on the first night i stake out a machine near the casino doors, where i know the sounds of coins hitting the tray is designed to attract customers.
i put 50 into the machine and cash out; i never play credit. then i put the coins in until the 50 is gone. there is always something in the tray, maybe even more than 50. it goes back to my room; i never throw it back into the machines. i do this every time i go to the casino. at the end of the cruise, i have lots of coins -- sometimes less than i have put in the machines; many times a few more. i cash them out on the last day and give the funds as tips to lido staff, etc., whom i have met and who i know need the money more than i do, for themselves and their families in foreign countries. i've had fun, thanks to these good folks, and we all win in the end. happy, to be sure. padre doug
My guess is this person is either Southern Baptist, a Christian Fundamentalist, or worse, a Christian Fanatic. Not everyone even believes in the Judeo-Christian God or the so-called Devil. I am a pagan myself, so I believe in a goddess and a god. In any case, if you really look at the Devil as an archetype, it becomes clear that people use this to escape self-responsibility, saying the Devil made me do it. I believe that gambling is ok if you are responsible with it. I also believe in taking responsibility for your own actions.
Let's get together and eliminate gambling on cruise ships. Please frequent these obscene, perverted places. Take all of their money that you can. Send it to me and I will send you receipt, start my own religion and you will be able to deduct it from your income tax. Together we can do this. If enough of you participate, this new church will purchase and island where we can all enjoy this new found faith and start our own casino sucking wealth from our curious visitors. Ahhhh. Every mans dream.

Again, folks, Dayvid likes to stir things up. Usually, it is fun. But this one seemed to hit a nerve. I do know people with family members who are true compulsive gamblers and that can be a disaster. But, that is an addiction. Just as one person can have a couple of cocktails on vacation and leave it at that, while others can't stop once they start.
My perspective is HURRAY FOR GAMBLERS. They contribute significantly to the profit of the cruise lines, which means more money for the companies to spend on stuff I like. I win big by staying out of the casino. Don't object to it, just don't enjoy it. Besides, I am such a bad gambler that I have actually lost at my local ATM machine.
Marty
I love gambling, but I have never felt the love gambling any place other than Las Vegas. Cruise ships do not tend to bring drinks or dinner to the table while you play or comp your trip.
Please, do not preach to me. If I choose to gamble and donate whatever I am spending that night to the casino, LET ME!!!
I am an adult and I know how to control myself, hence, I max out at $100 a day and when it is done, my fun is done! I GLADLY donate to the casino, win or no win. I have fun and will keep doing so.
I also drink, but only a few a day....
Next you're going to preach about sex before marriage.....

My view is personal, as each of yours is, respect.
But I have lived, experienced and seen the difference of a "bit of fun" go to when it starts to influence how some people and their families live day to day.
But hey ho, take it for what it is, no one can preach to all. Some have to learn it for themselves.
My opinion is not by any means religious, I dont do that gamble as I dont believe in God, the devil or other hocus pocus Mine is different, the reality of living with a gambler
